The current Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and Alexandria and Jerusalem is Gregory III Laham. The patriarchate is based in Damascus. Byzantine rite: Encyclopedia II - Melkite Greek Catholic Church - Name

The Melkite Greek Catholic Church is often referred to by other combinations of those names. The Melkite element comes from the Syriac word for imperial, which was originally a pejorative term for Middle-Eastern Christians who accepted the authority of the Council of Chalcedon (451) and the Byzantine Emperor.
