Palmer was present on a single track, Messina on five, and Martin on seven. Stills and Furay each appeared on nine, essentially dominating the album. Like ...

Buffalo: Encyclopedia II - Buffalo game - Rules

The rules are very simple, and involve which hand you may use to drink with. You can hold your drink with either hand, but may only drink from it with your non-dominant hand. If any other Buffalo players spot you drinking with your dominant hand, they call Buffalo on you and you must finish your drink as quickly as possible. If you hesitate to finish your drink, the other players will usually proceed to make a ruckus chanting "Buffalo!" and banging on the table until you finish. If you call a false Buffalo ...

Buffalo New York - Origin of name. It is a well known fact that the City of Buffalo received its name from the creek of the same name, however, there are several unproven theories as to the origin of the name of the creek. Early French explorers reported the abundance of Buffalo on the south shore of Lake Erie but their presence on the banks of Buffalo Creek is still a matter of debate, so the origin of the name of the creek is still uncertain. Neither the Native American name ("Place of the Basswoods") or the Fr ...

Buffalo: Encyclopedia II - Buffalo Springfield - Origins

After the arrest of their singer Rick James, Mynah Birds guitarist Neil Young and bassist Bruce Palmer decided to leave Toronto and head out west to Los Angeles in Young’s hearse, with only the knowledge that Stephen Stills (an acquaintance from Young's days as a folk singer) had already headed out there. Roughly a week later, stuck in traffic in Los Angeles and ready to depart for San Francisco, they were noticed by Stills and Furay (an acquaintance of both Stills and Young who had already joined Stills), who immediately came over; thus, ...

Buffalo: Encyclopedia II - Buffalo Bill - Early years

Buffalo Bill was born in 1846, the year before Mormon pioneers went west to Utah and two years before gold was discovered in California. He was fifteen when he claimed to have worked as a rider on the Pony Express, which went bankrupt the next year (1861), but historian Louis S. Warren disputes this claim in his book 'Buffalo Bill's America'. Shortly after the death of his mother in 1863, Cody enlisted in the 7th Kansas Cavalry regiment and fought with them on t ...

Buffalo: Social Studies Dictionary - Buffalo Soldiers

Definition and meaning of Buffalo Soldiers

Buffalo Soldiers

As settlers moved into west Texas soldiers were needed to protect them from attacks by Native Americans already living in the area. The Texas Plains Indians were defeated and their way of life ended following the Red River Wars, 1874-75. Units of black soldiers led by white officers gained recognition in both the Red River Wars and in raids on the Apaches in the Rio Grande Valley from 1876-1880. The Indians called them "Buffalo Soldiers" in honor of their bravery.

Buffalo: Encyclopedia II - Buffalo New York - Climate

Buffalo has a perhaps undeserved reputation for severe weather. In fact, Buffalo is the sunniest and driest of any major city in the Northeast in the summer, but still receives enough rain to keep vegetation green and lush. Of course, this causes the area to be quite humid in late summer, which is why many residents have backyard pools and air conditioners, a fact that surprises many visitors, wh ...
