The roughly horizontal but cambered structures spanning the hull of the boat are referred to as the "deck". In a ship there are often several, but a boat is unlikely to have more than one. Boat - Parts of a Boat: Encyclopedia - Canoe

A canoe is a relatively small boat, typically human-powered, but also commonly sailed. Canoes are pointed at both ends and usually open on top. In its human-powered form, the canoe is propelled by the use of paddles, with the number of paddlers depending on the size of canoe. Paddlers face in the direction of travel, either seated on supports in the hull, or kneeling directly upon the hull. In this way paddling a canoe can be contrasted with rowing, where the rowers face away from the direction of travel. Pa ...

Boat - Parts of a Boat: Encyclopedia - Type XIV U-boat

The Type XIV U-boat was a modification of the Type IXD, designed to resupply other U-boats. Because they were nicknamed "Milchkuh/Milchkühe (pl.)" (milk cows), a common name for them was milchcow. They had no offensive weaponry, only antiaircraft guns. In the middle part of World War II, the Milk Cows successfully allowed the smaller Type VIIC boats to raid the American coast during the "second happy time". The milk cows were of course a priority target for all Allied forces, and improved radar and air coverage eliminated them during 1943. Milk cow duty was especially hazardous; 289 sailors were ...

Boat - Parts of a Boat: Encyclopedia - Clinker

Clinker has several meanings: In boat building, clinker is a method of constructing wooden boats. In some parts of the world it is known as lapstrake. They are then tied together with steamed lengths of wood, typically oak or elm, called timbers, which resemble ribs. These are bent transversely into the already built shell and riveted to the lands of the strakes. Early iron vessels too, were clinker-built.<
