Hinduism Dictionary on Reincarnation
reincarnation: "Re-entering the flesh." Punarjanma; metempsychosis. The process wherein souls take on a physical body through the birth process. Reincarnation is one of the fundamental principles of Hindu spiritual insight, shared by the mystical schools of nearly all religions, including Jainism, Sikhism, Buddhism (and even by Christianity until it was cast out by the Nicene Council in 787). It is against the backdrop of this principle of the soul's enjoying many lives that other aspects of Hinduism can be understood. It is a repetitive cycle, known as punarjanma, which originates in the subtle plane (Antarloka), the realm in which souls live between births and return to after death. Here they are assisted in readjusting to the "in-between" world and eventually prepared for yet another birth. The quality and nature of the birth depends on the merit or demerit of their past actions (karma) and on the needs of their unique pattern of development and experience (dharma). The mother, the father and the soul together create a new body for the soul. At the moment of conception, the soul connects with and is irrevocably bound to the embryo. As soon as the egg is fertilized, the process of human life begins. It is during the mid-term of pregnancy that the full humanness of the fetus is achieved and the soul fully inhabits the new body, a stage which is acknowledged when the child begins to move and kick within the mother's womb. (Tirumantiram, 460: "There in the pregnant womb, the soul lay in primordial quiescence [turiya] state. From that state, Maya [or Prakriti] and Her tribe aroused it and conferred consciousness and maya's evolutes eight- desires and the rest. Thus say scriptures holy and true.") Finally, at birth the soul emerges into earth consciousness, veiled of all memory of past lives and the inner worlds. The cycle of reincarnation ends when karma has been resolved and the Self God (Parasiva) has been realized. This condition of release is called moksha. Then the soul continues to evolve and mature, but without the need to return to physical existence. How many earthly births must one have to attain the unattainable? Many thousands to be sure, hastened by righteous living, tapas, austerities on all levels, penance and good deeds in abundance. See: reincarnation, evolution of the soul, karma, moksha, nonhuman birth, samsara, soul.

| | | | | | | Birth: History of BuddhismThe history of
Buddhism spans from the 6th century BCE to the present,
starting with the birth of the Buddha Siddharta
Gautama. This makes it one of the oldest religions practiced
today. Throughout this period, the religion evolved as it encountered various
countries and cultures, adding to its original Indian foundation Hellenistic as well as Central Asian, East Asian, and Southeast Asian cultural elements. In the process, its geographical extent became
considerable so as to affect at one time or another most of the Asian
continent. The history of Buddhism is also characterized by the development of numerous
movements and schisms, foremost among them the Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana traditions, punctuated by
contrasting periods of expansion and retreat.

| | | | | | Birth: Life in the Spirit World - Part One There is only
one way in which we can be given information about what it is like in the
Spirit world. That information has to come first hand from someone who is
there. There are two ways in which someone can go to the Spirit world: either
temporarily, through some type of out of body experience or expansion of
consciousness; or permanently through death.

The Chinese astrology or birth chart is taken
from the date and time of birth. It is a statistical record of the energies
that existed at a specific time and has an accuracy of about 90%, however, the
effect it has on a person is only about 3.3% because there are many other
factors such as personality, background, education, culture, health and so
forth that also influences a person's life.

| | | | Birth: Feng Shui in BusinessBusiness Feng Shui
There are about 30 factors that influence or
determine our success in life. Of the 30, there are some that are predestined
or unchangeable. Then, there are adjustable factors. If we were to set these
factors on a scale, how do they rank in contributing to our success in life?
How can we improve certain factors to promote us? Feng shui is one of the
easiest accessible means of change that can be used to promote our well-being.
When our business has done all the promotion in the right markets and the
product or service is competitive, and yet business is slow, we need to
consider other factors that may be influencing it.

| | | | | Birth: Buddhist Funeral RitesBuddhism: Funeral Rites as practiced in Thailand and other
South East Asian Countries.
Funeral
rites are the most elaborate of all the life-cycle ceremonies and the ones
entered into most fully by the monks. It is a basic teaching of Buddhism that
existence is suffering, whether birth, daily living, old age or dying. This
teaching is never in a stronger position than when death enters a home. Indeed
Buddhism may have won its way the more easily in Thailand because it had more
to say about death and the hereafter than had animism.

| | | | Birth: Celebrate The Spirit Of Life With Jesus - about Christmas
Jesus came into the world to unveil the essence and scope of humanity. French philosopher Pascal said, it is through Jesus of Nazareth that we learn who we truly are, and what birth and death really mean. The genius of humanity is revealed fully in Jesus; that's why he stands at the centre of human history. However, with most people focusing more on the events surrounding his birth, the essence of Christmas itself tends to get lost.

| | | | Birth: Encyclopedia II - Twin - Human twinsHistorically, about 1 in 80 human births (1.2%) has been the result of a twin pregnancy. The rate of twinning varies greatly among ethnic groups, ranging as high as about 6% for the Yoruba or 10% for a tiny Brazilian village (see [1]). The widespread use of fertility drugs causing hyperovulation (stimulated release of multiple eggs by the mother) has caused what some call an "epidemic of multiple births". In 2001, for the first time ever in the US, the twinning rate exceeded 3% of all births. Thus, approximately 6% of childre ...

Buddhist Quotes: Of Birth and Death
Studying Zen, learning the way, is originally for the sake of birth and death, no other thing. What do I mean by other things? Arousing the mind and stirring thoughts right now; having contrivance and artificiality; having grasping and rejecting; having practice and realization; having purity and defilement; having sacred and profane; having Buddhas and sentient beings; writing verses and songs, composing poems and odes; discoursing on Zen and the way; discoursing on right and wrong; discoursing on past and present. These various activities are not relevant to the issue of birth and death; they are all “other things.” - Chien-ju
