Bindu: Encyclopedia II - Bindu - From the Anata Yoga School speaking as Bindu:
Contemplation upon The Absolute Consciousness also causes the individual Will (after the dissolution of the creations of that will) to dissolve into the Absolute Will; it is thus that Kundalini Sakti is activated. But the experience of the ascent of Kundalini, where the little will is literally drawn like a magnet up to the Sahasrara, by the power which arises as a result of contemplation upon The Absolute Consciousness in the emptiness of Self is not the final experience. Bindu: Encyclopedia II - Bindu - Bindu Chakra

In the Shakta tantra school of philosophy, there is said to exist a Bindu chakra, at the back of the head, in the part where Brahmans grow their small tuft of hair, although it is often not mentioned in traditional chakrologies. This centre is said to be where the Bindu fluid is produced, a fluid that can become either the nectar of immortality, or the poison of death. It is intimately connected to the Vishuddha chakra, and awakening the Vishuddha chakra is said to awaken the Bindu chakra. In metaphysical terms it is also said to be the point at which begins cre ...

Bindu: Role Of Srichakra In Devi Worship

In Hindu devotional practice, three kinds of external symbols are used for worship of the Supreme Being, who is actually formless and nameless. The most external is that of divine images cast in human form, with paraphernalia symbolising supra-human divinity.

The most subtle is that of the mantras or divine names with certain sounds. A mantra is divine power clothed in sound. Between these two come the yantras or chakras , representing the deity in geometrical diagrams. Worshippers of Shakti consider the Srichakra the holiest and most significant of divine symbols.

Bindu: Encyclopedia - Bindu Diena

In ancient Latvia, Bindus Diena was a festival observed on March 18, the day after Kustonu Diena. It was later named Binduli Diena, in honor of St. Benedict. It was associated primarily with insects. Everybody must be awake before the sunrise. Water must not be poured inside barns. The backs of the cows, and the barns' ceilings, must be washed. Bears were believed to wake up on this day, but then fall back asleep. Bringing firewood in on this day will bring snakes with you. Rushes, twigs and straw will also attract snakes. Potatoes and cabbages can not be planted on this day. Alternat ...

Bindu: Sangeet Marga - Path To Moksha

According to the Hindu view of creation, it was sound and not light that appeared first. In Vedic parlance it is called Nada Brahma or the Sound Celestial. Vedic rishis believed that the evolution of the Brahmand or universe was caused as a result of Bindu Visphot or an atomic explosion, that produced infinite waves of sound, which represent cosmicascent and expansion.

The sound was a monosyllable: Om . Since Om is related to the beginning of the universe, Hindus consider it the most sacred syllable with which Vedic mantras commence.

Bindu: Hindu - Hinduism Dictionary on Bindu

bindu: (Sanskrit) "A drop, small particle, dot."

1)    The seed or source of creation. In the 36 tattvas, the nucleus or first particle of transcendent light, technically called Parabindu, corresponding to the Shakti tattva. Scientists say the whole universe just before the big bang could fit on the head of a pin- a tremendous point of energy- that is Parabindu.

2)    Small dot worn on the forehead between the eyebrows, or in the middle of the forehead, made of red powder (kunkuma), sandalpaste, clay, cosmetics or other substance. It is a sign that one is a Hindu. Mystically, it represents the "third eye," or the "mind's eye," which sees things that the physical eyes cannot see. The forehead dot is a reminder to use and cultivate one's spiritual vision, to perceive and understand life's inner workings, as well as to look into the past to see the future. The bindu is also a beauty mark worn by Hindu women, the color red generally a sign of marriage, black often worn before marriage to ward off the evil eye, kudrishti or papadrishti.

3)    The bindu is known as pottu in Tamil.

4)    Bindu is also a term for semen.

See: tattva, tilaka.
