Bhaga: Accept God as Supreme

Accept God as Supreme

The Bhagavad Gita says: Bhagavan uvaca - "the Supreme Lord said...,'' indicating that it is the Supreme Lord Himself who is speaking.

Krishna is referred to as Bhagavan in the Gita. Bhaga means opulence, and van means one who possesses. God or Bhagavan is described as one who possesses all opulence, knowledge, wealth, power, beauty, fame and renunciation. There are many rich, wise, famous, beautiful or powerful men, but no one man can claim to possess all of these opulences. Only Krishna claims to possess them in totality.

Bhaga: Mind is Matter - Nurture It

Results of recent studies published in the British Journal of Psychiatry pronounce that diet has a direct bearing on the behaviour of juvenile delinquents. Certain types of food brought about - though very gradually - distinct changes in the behavioural pattern of the delinquents.

Foods affect animal behaviour as well. For instance, a dog fed on raw meat for any length of time turns out to be more ferocious than a similar breed fed on vegetarian foods. Sastras explain that mind is also matter, albeit subtle, and, like the body, is nourished by food. The Chandogya Upanishad says: "Mind consists of food, prana (life force) of water and speech of fire."

Bhaga: Marriages in Hinduism

Hinduism and Marriage

According to Hinduism, a marriage between two persons is a sacred relationship that is not limited to this life alone. It extends across seven or more lives, during which the couple help each other progress spiritually. The adage that marriages are made in heaven is very much true in case of Hinduism. Two souls come together and marry because their karmas are intertwined and they have to resolve many things together upon earth in order to ensure their mutual salvation.

In the Rigveda, they are seven deities of the heavens, chief of these being Varuna, followed by Mitra, Aryaman, Bhaga, Daksha, and Ansa, the seventh Aditya was probably the Sun, Surya or Savitar. As a class of gods, the Rigvedic Adityas were distinct from the Vishvedevas. In the Yajurveda (TS), their number is given as eight. In the Brahmanas, their number is expanded to twelve, corresponding to the twelve months: Ansa Aryman < ...

Bhaga: Encyclopedia - Virabhadra

In Hinduism, Virabhadra is a super being created by Shiva who eventually blinded Bhaga. The super being was created after Shiva's wife, Sati was not invited to a great sacrifice given by her father Daksa. Sati, being greatly humiliated, went to the banquet and self immolated, by invoking yogic flames. When Shiva heard about his wife's death, he tore a hair out of his head and threw it on the ground. From this hair rose a great warrior and hero -- Virabhadra. Virabhadra and his army destroyed Daksa's sacrifice and killed Daksa.<

Bhaga: Encyclopedia - Asura

Asura - In Hinduism. In Hindu mythology, the Asura (Sanskrit: असुर) are a group of power-seeking deities, sometimes misleadingly referred to as demons. They were opposed to the devas. Both groups are children of Kasyapa. The name is cognate to Ahura and Æsir, which implies a common Proto-Indo-European origin for the Asura and the Æsir. The negative character of the asura in Hinduism seems to have evolved over time. In general, the earliest texts have the asuras presiding over moral and soc ...
