Dream Interpretation Beggar

A beggar in your dream could represent you, and the focus will be the area of your personality or sphere of your life that is in some way deficient. Very likely that your emotional life is pretty empty. Dreaming about a beggar entering a house means that a visitor is going to surprise you. If you are giving a gift to a beggar, you will soon get positive results and get a relief from an uncomfortable situation.

Beggar: What You Need For Effortless Living

A beggar on the street and a king sitting on the throne are both beggars. They are continuously asking for something from the outside. One looks for money, food or shelter. The other, the king, might be looking for happiness, or ways to conquer another kingdom.

Gautama Buddha, on the other hand, begged only for his food, for the rest he was self-sufficient. Others, however, beg for everything else but food. A spiritual person has earned everything else from within, so he begs only for food.

Beggar: : Bhikkhu

In Pāli, a bhikkhu (male) or bhikkhuni (female) is a fully ordained Buddhist monk. The respective Sanskrit versions are bhikṣu and bhikṣunī. The word literally translates as "beggar" or more broadly as "one who lives by alms". It is philologically analysed in the Pali commentary of the Buddhaghosa as "the person who sees danger (in samsara or cycle of rebirth)" (Pali = bhayam. ikkhatīti bhikkhu) He therefore seeks ordination in order to release from it. A bhikkhu has taken a vow to enter the Sangha (

Hindu Quotes: Give Without Scoffing or Scorning

A jubilant heart rejoices upon seeing

those who give without scoffing or scorning.

Deprived of beggars, this vast and verdant Earth would

become uncharitable, a ball for the play of wooden puppets.

Beggar: A Far Richer Prize

Muslim Quotes: A Far Richer Prize

Muhammad, your Lord never forsakes you; nor does he ever turn away from you. The life to come holds a far richer prize than this present life; you will be delighted at what your Lord will give you. When you were an orphan, did he not enrich you? Therefore you should neither reject the orphan, nor drive away the beggar; instead you should proclaim the goodness of your Lord.

Beggar: Encyclopedia - Belisarius

Flavius Belisarius (505-565) was one of the greatest generals of the Byzantine Empire and one of the greatest generals in history. Belisarius is not particularly well known today (certainly nowhere as near as well-known as Julius Caesar, or Alexander the Great), but this is due more to a lack of attention to Byzantine history than to his skill and accomplishments, which were matched by few, if any, military commanders. Belisarius - Early life and career. Belisarius was probably born in Germane or ...

Beggar: Encyclopedia - 4AD Records

The British indie rock record label 4AD Records was started in 1979 by Ivo Watts-Russell and Peter Kent, funded by Beggars Banquet Records. It was originally formed as Axis Records, but this was quickly changed to 4AD when it became apparent that the name Axis was already being used by another music company. The 4AD logo is a spoof of the AAD Audio CD process designation. In 1980 Peter Kent left the company to start another label (also funded by Beggars Banquet): Situation Two Records. Shortly afterwards, Ivo invited the ...

Beggar: Encyclopedia - Argos mythology

In Greek mythology, Argos was Odysseus' faithful dog. He waited for his master's return to Ithaca for over a decade while most presumed Odysseus dead. He was the first (after those to whom Odysseus exposed himself) to recognize the King returning from the Trojan War, even though Odysseus was disguised as a beggar to discover what was going on in his palace during his absence. It was said that as soon as Argos recognized his master, he dropped his ears and did his best to wag his tail. Having fulfilled his destiny of faith by laying his eyes upon hi ...

Beggar: Encyclopedia II - Belisarius - The legend of Belisarius as a blind beggar

According to a story that gained popularity during the Middle Ages, Justinian is said to have ordered Belisarius' eyes to be put out, and reduced him to the status of homeless beggar condemned to asking passers-by to "give an obolus to Belisarius" (date obolum Belisario), before pardoning him. Most modern scholars believe the story to be apocryphal, though Philip Henry Stanhope, 5th Earl of Stanhope, a 19th century British philologist who wrote Life of Belisarius--the only exhaustive biography of the great general--believed the ...

Beggar: Encyclopedia II - Belisarius - Belisarius in fiction

Belisarius was featured in several works of art before the 20th century. The oldest of them is the historical treatise by his very own secretary, Procopius, the Anecdota, commonly referred to as the Arcana Historia or Secret History, it is an extended attack on Belisarius and Antonia, indicting him as a love-blind fool and his wife as unfaithful and duplicitous. Later works include the 17th century poem by Friedrich de la Motte Fouque, Beliar, the John Oldmixon drama The life and history of Belisarius, who conq ...

Beggar: Encyclopedia II - Belisarius - Early life and career

Belisarius was probably born in Germane or Germania, a city that once stood on the site of present day Sapareva Banya in south-west Bulgaria. Some suggest that he was of Romanized Slavic ancestry, on the grounds that his name is somewhat similar to the Slavic "Beli Tsar" ("White Prince"), but most contemporary historians disregard this theory as the word tsar was first used in the 10th century, well after Belisarius' death. He became a Byzantine soldier as a young man, serving in the bodyguard of the Emperor Justin I. Fo ...

Beggar: Encyclopedia II - Belisarius - Campaigns against the Vandals

For his efforts, Belisarius was rewarded by Justinian with the command of a great land and sea expedition against the kingdom of the Vandals, mounted in 533-534. The Byzantines had both political, religious, and strategic reasons for mounting such a campaign. The pro-Byzantine Vandal king Hilderic had been deposed and murdered by the usurper Gelimer, giving Justinian a legal pretext for mounting an expedition. Furthermore, the Arian Vandals had periodically persecuted the Chalcedonian Christians within their kingdom, many of whom made their ...

Beggar: Encyclopedia II - Belisarius - Campaigns against the Ostrogoths

Justinian now resolved to restore as much of the Western Roman Empire as he could. In 535, he commissioned Belisarius to attack the Ostrogoths. Again, he chose well, as Belisarius quickly captured Sicily and then crossed into Italy proper, where he captured Naples and Rome in 536. The following year, he successfully defended Rome against the Goths and moved north to take Mediolanum (Milan) and the Ostrogoth capital of Ravenna in 540, where the Goth king Witiges was captured. Shortly prior to the taking of Ravenna, the Ostrogoths offered to m ...
