North Province Cameroon - Land.
Bands of alternating metamorphic and sedimentary rock interspersed with granite characterise the north's geology. Granite covered in volcanic basalt makes up the southernmost reaches, which form part of the Adamawa Plateau. A series of faults lies north of this and separate the plateau from the band of metamorphic stone to its north. Random granite deposits also characterise this area. The Mayo Rey and Vina River cut north of this portion, leaving deposits of sedimentary stone exce ...

South Africa - Pre-history.
South Africa contains some of the oldest archaeological sites in Africa. Extensive fossil remains at the Sterkfontein, Kromdraai and Makapansgat caves suggest that various australopithecines existed in South Africa from about three million years ago. These were succeeded by various species of Homo, including Homo habilis, Homo erectus and modern man, Homo sapiens. Bantu iron-using agriculturists and herdsmen moved south of the Limpopo River into modern-day S ...

 | | | baobab: Encyclopedia II - Life expectancy - Life expectancy over human historyLife expectancy before the 'health transition' of the modern era is thought to have varied between about 20 yrs and 35 years, depending upon particular circumstances. It has been suggested that life expectancy fell with the introduction of plant and animal domestication because of:
higher infection rates caused by the increase in human settlement size and density,
poorer nutrition due to reduced meat intake, and
'grea ...

 | | | baobab: Encyclopedia II - Life expectancy - Life expectancy over human historyOne of the biggest jumps in life expectancy coincided with the introduction of sewers, which greatly reduced the spread of disease. In the last few centuries a strong statistical effect was caused by the near elimination of infant mortality in the Western world and elsewhere. On a world-wide scale, extreme poverty still remains a barrier to increasing life expectancy in developing nations.
Life expectancy before the 'health transition' of the modern era is thought to have varied between about 20 yrs and 35 years, depending upon partic ...

 | | | baobab: Encyclopedia II - The Lion King - About the filmThe Lion King, though a very humanistic story, remains the only Disney film to lack any trace of human existence. Robin Hood featured only anthropomorphized animals who lived like humans, while Bambi featured only unseen human characters; whether this makes The Lion King Walt Disney's first "non-human animals-only" film is open to interpretation, but it is one film that is free of "human elements". The film was also the first Disney animated feature to ...

The wood of this tree is light (relative density = 0.27 g/cm³), soft and flexible, and is employed in packaging, to make canoes, as wood pulp to make paper, and in ropes. From the seeds it is possible to obtain vegetable oil (either edible or for industrial use).
The floss silk tree is mostly cultivated for ornamental purposes. Outside of private gardens around the world, it is often planted alo ...

 | | | baobab: Encyclopedia II - Respiratory system - Respiratory system in humans and animalsIn humans and other mammals, the respiratory system consists of the airways, the lungs, and the respiratory muscles that mediate the movement of air into and out of the body. Within the alveolar system of the lungs, molecules of oxygen and carbon dioxide are passively exchanged between the gaseous environment and the blood. Thus, the respiratory system facilitates oxygenation of the blood with a concomitant removal of carbon dioxide and other gaseous metabolic wastes from the circulation.

 | | | baobab: Encyclopedia II - Patent medicine - Patent medicines and advertisingThe phrase patent medicine comes from the early days of the marketing of medical elixirs, when those who found favour with royalty were issued letters patent authorising the use of the royal endorsement in advertising. The name stuck well after the American Revolution made these endorsements by the crowned heads of Europe obsolete. Few if any of the nostrums were actually patented; chemical patents came into use in the USA in 1925, and in any case attempting to monopolize a drug, medical device, or medical procedure was considered ...
