Banu Hashim (Arabic: بنو هاشم) is a clan in the Quraish tribe. Muhammad was a member of this clan; his great-grandfather was Hashim for whom the clan is named. Banu Hashim: Encyclopedia - Shaiba ibn Hashim

His name was Shaiba ibn Hashim, but he became known as Abd-al-Muttalib ibn Hashim. His father was Hashim ibn Abd al-Manaf and his mother was Salma bint Amr of the tribe of an-Najjar.
