Back: Encyclopedia II - Back to the land - The recent North American instance

Regarding North America, many individual persons and households have moved from urban or suburban circumstances to rural ones at different times; for instance, the economic theorist and land-based American experimenter Ralph Borsodi is said to have influenced thousands of urban-living people to try a modern homesteading life during the Great Depression. There was again a fair degree of interest in moving to rural land after World War II. In 1947 Betty MacDonald published what became a popular book, The Egg and I, telling her st ...

• Former U.S. President Ronald Reagan was a big fan of the show. • Sebastian's Welcome Back is the only song written for a television show to reach to the top of the musical charts in the U.S. • The show was originally going to be called simply Kotter, but that was changed because of the theme song lyrics. • The orange lettering used for Shortridge's name in the opening credits did not match that of the other actors. • Palillo got a nosejob years after the show ended so he would less resemble Horshack. • The Welcome Back, Kotter comic book was published ...

Back: Encyclopedia II - Tilt Ya Head Back - Chart success

"Tilt Ya Head Back" flopped in the US, failing to crack even the top fifty of either the Billboard Hot 100 or Hot 100 Airplay, in a very similar fate that Aguilera's previous single, "Car Wash" faced. This could be viewed as Christina's 3rd flop single and Nelly's forth. Internationally, the song became a top five hit in the UK, but peaked at a somewhat-low #27 in Canada. It peaked lowly in other European nations. ...

Universal Pictures had selected Back to the Future Part III to feature its then-new computer generated logo for the first time. This was in celebration of the studio's 75th Anniversary. The logo featured the "UNIVERSAL" "letters" rolling in from the right angle of the animated globe. It also featured a light orchestral tune by film composer James Horner. Universal continued using this logo up until 1997, when a more modern-looki ...

Back: Encyclopedia II - Bringing It All Back Home - Aftermath

The release of Bringing It All Back Home coincided with the final show of a joint tour with Joan Baez. By now, Dylan had grown far more popular and acclaimed than Baez, and it would be the last time they'd perform together in a very long time. (She would accompany him on another tour in May of 1965, but Dylan would not ask her to perform with him.) The timing was appropriate as Bringing It All Back Home signaled a new era. One of Dylan's most celebrated albums, Bringing It All Back Home was soon hailed as one of t ...

The raunchy "If You Gotta Go, Go Now (Or Else You Got To Stay All Night)" was issued as a single in Europe, but it would not be issued in the U.S. until The Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3 (Rare & Unreleased) 1961-1991. An upbeat, electric performance, the song is relatively straightforward, with the title providing much of the subtext. Fairport Convention recorded a tongue-in-cheek, acoustic French-language version, "Si Tu Dois Partir," fo ...

Following the 1979 cancellation, the stars enjoyed varying degrees of success. After several strong showings, Travolta's film career took a nosedive until 1994's Pulp Fiction revived his status as a strong box office draw. Kaplan made a few comedic films and television guest appearances, but began to focus on investments and a passion for professional poker. He has, however, returned to his stand-up comedy roots in recent years. Hegyes continued acting in movies and on television, where he landed a regular role on Cagney and Lacey on CBS. Pa ...

Dylan spent much of the summer of 1964 in Woodstock, a small town in upstate New York. Dylan was already familiar with the area, but his visits were becoming longer and more frequent. Dylan's manager, Albert Grossman, also had a place in Woodstock, and when Joan Baez went to see Dylan that August, they stayed at Grossman's house. Baez recalls that "most of the month or so we were there, Bob stood at the typewriter in the corner of his room, drinking red wine and smoking and tapping away relentlessly for hours. And in the dead of night ...

Back: Encyclopedia II - Back in the Day 2002 song - About the song

Produced by Elliott's main producer and longtime collaborator Timbaland, "Back In The Day" is an ode to the classic era of old school hip hop, when the hip hop culture was, Elliott sings, fun and peaceful, compared to the more violent scope of modern-day hip-hop. "Back in ihe day/hip hop has changed", she sings. During the bridge of the song she even makes a point of referencing "Self-Destruction", a 1989 collaborative benefit single for peace featuring a number of that era's hip-hop stars. Incidentally, MC Lyte's verse from "Self-Destruction" is sampled on another of U ...

Back to the Future Part II - Replacement of Crispin Glover. Actor Crispin Glover was asked to portray the part of George McFly in this film, but he declined, saying he was not offered enough money for his part. During all new scenes with George McFly in both this film and Back to the Future III he is played by Jeffrey Weissman and seen wearing sunglasses, from the back, upside-down or in the background out of focus. This was to prevent audiences from realizing that George McFly was a different actor. Howev ...

Back: Encyclopedia II - Bringing It All Back Home - The Songs

The album opens with "Subterranean Homesick Blues," an anti-establishment diatribe that was heavily inspired by Chuck Berry's "Too Much Monkey Business." Often cited as a precursor to rap and music videos (the cue-card scene in Dont Look Back), "Subterranean Homesick Blues" became a Top 40 hit for Dylan. One of Dylan's most celebrated and ambitious compositions, "It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" is arguably one of Dylan's finest songs. At fifteen verses long, it is also one of his most verbose. Clinton Heylin wrote that it ...

Since it is much easier to manufacture a high-quality linear CCD array that has only a few thousand pixels than a CCD matrix that has millions of them, very high resolution linear CCD camera backs were available much earlier than their CCD matrix counterparts. For example, you could buy an expensive camera back with an over 7,000-pixel horizontal resolution in the mid-1990s. However, as of 2004, you can still hardly ...

Back: Encyclopedia II - Johnston-Ruyer Back Therapy - The Basic Program

Standard sorts of leg exercises are part of the program, if possible including lots of running and walking (taking care not to employ back muscles to help swing the legs). Maintaining a specific sort of balance while moving, especially when sitting down or getting up from a chair, is the other half of the therapy. Both parts require relearning our unthinking patterns of motion, in simple but precise ways that let all our other muscles do more of the work, and our backs, less. Exercises to strengthen the back itself are regarded as inessentia ...

Back: Encyclopedia II - Back Bay Boston Massachusetts - History

This parcel of land was created by filling the tidewater flats of the Charles River. This massive project was begun in 1857. The filling of present-day Back Bay was completed by 1882; filling reached Kenmore Square in 1890, and finished in the Fens in 1900. The project was the largest of a number of land reclamation projects, beginning in 1820, which over the course of time more than doubled the size of the original Boston peninsula. It is frequently observed that this would hav ...

In July 1997, Universal Studios announced that Back to the Future would be one of their first 10 releases to the new format. The footage that was shot with Eric Stoltz in the role of Marty McFly (before he was replaced with Michael J. Fox a few weeks into shooting) has never been officially released. This footage was not included in Universal's original DVD release in 2002 or in 2005, despite many fans hoping that Universal would include it. See also:
