Lughnasadh - August 1

Lughnasadh is the first of the three harvest Sabbats. It is also know as Lammas and is a time to give thanks to the God and Goddess for all that they have brought to us thus far. The Goddess is still pregnant with the future harvests, and is honored and revered as the new mother. This is the time of year for rededication, or rekindling of sacred fires. This is the time to be thankful for all that you have.

Aghora (Sanskrit) (from a not + the verbal root ghur to frighten)

Nonterrifying; as a masculine noun, a title of Siva in the Mahabharata; also of a devotee of Siva and his consort Durga. As a feminine noun, the fourteenth day of the dark half of Bhadra (a rainy month in August-September) sacred to Siva.

chaturmasya

the four months of the rainy season in India (approximately July, August, September, and October). During this period, there are certain rules and regulations which are strictly followed to decrease sense enjoyment and increase remembrance of the Lord.

Janmastami - the appearance day of Lord Sri Krsna which occurs on the eighth day of the dark lunar fortnight of the month of Bhadra (August-September).

According to the Visnu Purana, however, Janmastami occurs on the eighth day of the dark lunar fortnight of the month of Sravana (July-August). The reason for this difference is that in some years the mukhya-candra-masa, or principal lunar month falls in Sravana.

The mukhya-candra-masa refers to a lunar month which ends with a conjunction of planets, whereas gaunacandra- masa refers to a lunar month which ends with an opposition of planets. When the mukhya-candra-masa occurs in Sravana, Janmastami falls in that month instead of Bhadra.

Jatakarma:

Jatakarma: rite of - or first cleansing (birth-ceremony). (BV-2) The jatakarma birth ceremony, which can take place when the umbilical cord, connecting the child and the placenta, is cut, entails the touching of the tongue of the new-born trice with ghee preceded by introductory prayers. Itihasa (Sanskrit) (from iti thus, so + ha indeed + asa it was)

Thus indeed it was; legend, tradition, history. From the custom of narrators to conclude their utterance with this phrase, it acquired the meaning of tradition. It is also "the narrative of the lives of some august personages, conveying at the same time meanings of the highest moral and occult importance" (BCW 6:42).
