Definition and meaning of Aquarius:

Aquarius - Aquarius is an underwater ocean laboratory located in the NOAA Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. The laboratory is deployed three and half miles offshore, at a depth of 60 feet, next to spectacular coral reefs. Scientists live in Aquarius during ten-day missions using saturation diving to study and explore the coastal ocean. Aquarius Dictionary: Parapsychology Dictionary on Age of Aquarius

Age of Aquarius:

The alleged two-thousand year long period in human history marked by enlightenment, love, and profound peace heralded by the ascension of the constellation of Aquarius into 'the house of the Sun' in "astrology".

Astrologers through out history have disputed the time frame in which this period of universal enlightenment is set to begin, with most estimates falling between 1904 and 2160 AD. The term received its greatest popularity during the 1960s when spiritual exploration and alternative lifestyles became fashionable in society because of the political and social unrest of the time. See also "New Age".

Aquarius Dictionary: Mysticism Magick Dictionary on AQUARIUS

AQUARIUS

The 11th sign, the number of wizardry - electronic as well as esoteric. The sign of astronomy, no less than astrology, and above all the sign of independence and service to the world. The new precessional beginning of the zodiac, heading the New Age. It is the emblem and inspiration of "Man": "Henceforth the Son of Man appeareth in the heavens..." In 1929 Jung wrote that we would enter the first star of Aquarius in 1940, adding "That would be the turning point. We may look for a new development about that time." The fact that 1940 marked the entry into a lustrum that encompassed the nadir of humanity indicates that the "Age of Man" is the Kali Yuga.

Famous Aquarians are Lincoln, Thomas Paine, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Edison, Lindbergh, Dickens, and Jules Verne.

Aquarius Dictionary: Mysticism Magick Dictionary on AGE OF AQUARIUS

AGE OF AQUARIUS

The (approximately) 2000 year cycle of the Precession of the Equinoxes and the end of the Piscean or Christian aeon. Characterized by Humanism as opposed to religious dogma. Its beginning is sometime in the 19th-21st Centuries. In the year 1995, Uranus , the ruler of Aquarius, after entering that sign for the first time since 1920, must remain there well into the 21st Century. According to some authorities, however, the Piscean Age did not begin until 80 A.D. and so we cannot observe effects of the New Aeon prior to 2068. Such a view ignores common sense, because macroscopic celestial events cannot be earth-synchronized precisely and all ages overlap considerably. Moreover, the signs of the zodiac do not correspond to the constellations and if we force astrology to conform to the positions of the constellations we jam it into an unbecoming strait-jacket. The signs were never intended to correspond to the positions of the constellations and are of uniform length to accommodate solar/lunar mansions within 360 degrees. As in determining degrees and aspects in a horoscope, so the Grand Horoscope of the Universe must be interpreted with wisdom as well as with mathematical exactitude.

The Ages are derived from the fact that the Great Year, or Platonic Year, is 26,000 years long, which roughly divides into twelve periods, twelve being conveniently (though inaccurately) the number or zodiacal signs. A more accurate division, of course, would be 13. (See NEWTIME).

Aquarius Dictionary: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Aquarius

Aquarius (Latin) Pertaining to water; the water-bearer, the 11th sign of the zodiac. In astrology an airy, fixed, masculine sign, the principal house of Saturn, though sometimes said to by ruled by Uranus. In about 1898, the equinoctial point passed from Pisces to Aquarius of the stellar (movable) zodiac, thus initiating a new Messianic cycle succeeding that of Pisces -- the fish-man, associated with Jesus Christ.

The Gnostic sun god is depicted as a man covered with breasts, having a fish on his head and a sea monster at his feet, which plainly indicates the group of three signs -- Pisces, Aquarius, and Capricorn -- and points to a fourfold division of the zodiac, each division embracing three signs; Taurus perhaps represented by the Egyptian bull Apis, standing for the triad of signs which preceded Aquarius.

The Brahmanical equivalent to Aquarius, presided over by the sky god Indra, is Kumbha, which Subba Row states is equivalent in its numerical value to 14, a number intended to represent the 14 lokas or chaturdasa-bhuvana (Theos, Nov 1881). Assigning the twelve sons of Jacob in the Hebrew system to the signs of the zodiac, Reuben is ascribed to Aquarius, who is "unstable as water"; also associated with Rimmon, the god of storms and rain (SD 2:353), and equated with Ganymede.

Aquarius Dictionary: Spiritual Dictionary on Aquarius

Aquarius: The best quality of Aquarius is your humanitarian attitude. The worst quality is argumentativeness. A key phrase is “I know.” Aquarians are seen as progressive. When we speak of the Age of Aquarius, we are speaking of a period beginning now and extending into the future, with all the possibilities the future has to offer. Aquarians may be well informed or even visionary in your thinking. You may not be grounded in the practical application of your ideas. Focused on a universal goal, you may not attend to the needs of individuals in ordinary circumstances.

Aquarians have advanced ideas. You are original and scientific in your methods, and you are strongly interested in education, for yourself and for others. You often prefer to learn through conversation with others, rather than through straight book studies. There is an unconventional quality in your thinking – you can take apples and oranges and make something greater of you.

Aquarians are generally pleasant, but you are also assertive. Your determination can turn to argument when you don’t get your way, and you can be unsympathetic to the views of others. Your temperament is affected by the world outside yourself, and can become cranky at times, or even rebellious. Your usual cheerful manner and understanding of human nature make you skillful social beings, but you may be somewhat reclusive, needing a lot of private time to think things through. You are not terribly practical and have to learn to manage time and money.

Aquarians are generally kind and are influenced by the kindness of others. This may be because you have moments when you are unsympathetic, and you recognize the need for this quality. Aquarians value your freedom, and thus respect the freedom of others. You are interested in metaphysical subjects. Your lack of demonstrative behavior may be your way of keeping your feelings to yourself.

Aquarius: The Reformer

Key Phrase: I KNOW

Aquarius is the experience of individuality, and can be highly autonomous. As the Fixed Air sign of the zodiac, Aquarius expresses focused mental energy, and can show a strong level of ingenuity. Although most people think of Aquarius as progressive, it also has the capacity for fanatical attachment to an idea or ideal. Aquarius is the rebel and anarchist, but can be unselfish and altruistic, much like Uranus, which rules this sign. Symbolized by the Water-Bearer, Aquarius pours forth ideas streaming from the mind; in its highest form this is stimulated by intuitive awareness. Aquarius seeks to develop the true, unconditional love of friendship. Its cool detachment can be directed in positive ways to bring about change, but can also seem hurtful on a personal level. Where you see Aquarius in your chart, you see your need for the unconventional, and for the development of your individuality.

Aquarius Dictionary: New Age Dictionary on Age of Aquarius

Age of Aquarius - N

Astrologers believe that evolution goes through cycles corresponding to the signs of the zodiac, each lasting from 2,000 to 2,400 years. New Age advocates say we are now moving from the cycle associated with Pisces into the one associated with Aquarius. The Acquarian Age will supposedly be characterized by a heightened degree of spiritual or cosmic consciousness.

URANUS

The planetary ruler of Aquarius and the Aquarian Age. Uranus is the God of sudden change and idiosyncrasy who dwells at the heart of routine and conformity. The years 1912-1919 and 1995-2002 mark the boundaries of Uranus and Aquarius for our time.

Kumbha (Sanskrit) Watering pot; the eleventh zodiacal sign, Aquarius.

"When represented by numbers, the word is equivalent to 14. It can be easily perceived then that the division in question is intended to represent the 'Chaturdasa Bhuvanam,' or the 14 lokas spoken of in Sanskrit writings" (Subba Row, Theos 3:44).
