Tomas in particular as he was responsible for writing most of their debut album Keasbey Nights, which is regarded as one of the top albums of the third wave of ska. After Keasbey all three left, at seperate times and for their own reasons, so that when Catch recorded their second album Alone in a Crowd it was with a considerably differ ...

 | | | Alternative Press: Encyclopedia II - Despair Faction - HistoryIn July of 2001, following the release of The Art of Drowning in late 2000, AFI's final album on Dexter Holland's independent record label Nitro Records, the official AFI website launched a "Name the Fan Club" contest, calling fans to submit possible names for a future fan club in the works. After nearly 4,000 entries, the band settled on the Despair Faction, a play on words from The Art Of Drowning's track The Despair Factor. Nearly one year later, the official AFI website announced the opening of The Despair Faction, the contest winner receiving a free membership and special recognition on the fan club's website.

 | | | Alternative Press: Encyclopedia II - Hurt song - Johnny Cash's recordingJohnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" was released on his 2002 album, American IV: The Man Comes Around. Rick Rubin, producer of Cash's American series and friend of Trent Reznor, suggested the song to Cash. Cash's time-ravaged voice and sparse arrangement lent weight to the song's lamenting tone. Cash's recording was given the Country Music Award for "Single of the Year" in 2003. In 2005, Cash's rendition appeared prominently in television commercials for the upcoming fifth season of the F/X television drama, The Shield. ...

 | | | Alternative Press: Encyclopedia II - Streetlight Manifesto - Rivalry with Catch 22Due to Tomas' history with Catch 22 and Streetlight's rapid rise to success many fans have speculated that their may be some animosity and rivalry between the two bands. In fact both bands have lyrics on their albums (Everything Goes Numb and Dinosaur Sounds that were both released in late 2003) that could be interpreted as hostile messages to one another. In Streetlight's "A Moment of Silence" one line goes "If you hate me so much then stop singing my songs", which many fans took to be a reference to Catch 22 still performing songs which Tomas wrote on Keasbey Nights. Similarly th ...

 | | | Alternative Press: Encyclopedia II - Streetlight Manifesto - Musical influences and styleSince Kalnoky is responsible for writing most of the music, it is his influences that most affect the songs. He writes them on an acoustic guitar, and then fleshes them out on the computer. The rest of the band then come in and add their parts to the songs, although Kalnoky will sometimes hum the sort of hornline he wants[1]. In an interview he called the Stand by Me soundtrack his biggest musical influence, and says when writing songs that he looks ...

 | | | Alternative Press: Encyclopedia II - Shadows Fall - MusicOnce described as "death metal on melody pills" [1], Shadows Fall's sound mixes melodic elements with crushing riffs, double bass drum patterns, pinch harmonics and furious screaming-growling or death grunt vocals.
The sounds of Shadows Fall reflect both American and European influences. On the one hand, the band's use of "shredding", or fast guitar solos, draws upon the classic American thrash metal heritage of bands such as Metallica, Anthrax, and Slayer. Equally, however, its complex single-note riffs and dual-guitar harmonies have ...

 | | | Alternative Press: Encyclopedia II - Hurt song - The song"Hurt," the conclusion to the The Downward Spiral's tale of self-destruction, presents a man's hindsight view of his own downfall. It is a sobering, harrowing song, the chorus asking "what have I become?" before admitting, "everyone I know goes away in the end." It also acts as an apology to those surrounding the narrator: "I will let you down, I will make you hurt," acknowledging the pain caused to loved ones. The song ends on an ambiguous note, proclaiming:
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myselfSee also: Hurt song, Hurt song - The song, Hurt song - NIN videos, Hurt song - Johnny Cash's recording, Hurt song - Cash's video, Hurt song - Reznor's reaction, Hurt song - Eddie Guerrero, Hurt song - Other versions of the song, Hurt song - The NIN single, Hurt song - Track listing Read more here: » Hurt song: Encyclopedia II - Hurt song - The song |
