Alliance is a city located in Box Butte County, Nebraska. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,959. It is the county seat of Box Butte CountyGR6. The town was originally named Grand Lake. When the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad came to Grand Lake in 1888, the railroad superintendent, G.W.
