Definition and meaning of anaphylaxis: anaphylaxis - a severe, potentially life-threatening, allergic reaction, which can occur after an animal sting or as a reaction to an injected drug. Less commonly, the reaction occurs after a particular food or drug has been taken by mouth. Symptoms may include vascular collapse, shock and respiratory distress; also called "anaphylactic shock"
