All Grown Up: Encyclopedia II - Spoiled brat - Stereotypical image of spoiled brats

The stereotypical spoiled brat is a rich child. If a girl, she is always wearing a dress and sometimes has pigtails or very stylized and oversized ringlets. If a boy, he is most likely dressed in fine clothes at all times and has his hair brushed and cut neatly. A more positive term for "spoiled brat" would be "spoiled princess" for a girl who doesn't show much of the negative symptoms. Another would be "d ...

All Grown Up: Encyclopedia II - Drawn Together - DVD Release

The first season of Drawn Together was released on DVD on October 4, 2005. Its release was timed to coincide with the premiere of Season Two on television. The set includes all seven aired first season episodes. (By the time the release was finalized, it had been determined that the unaired Terms of Endearment would air during Season Two, so it was left off the set and will be released on DVD later.) The profanity and nudity are intact and uncensored, resulting in probably the most explicit release of any basic cable series to date. S ...

All Grown Up: Encyclopedia II - TOKYOPOP - Success and criticism

Many people in the industry credit TOKYOPOP for transforming the American manga market to its current state of popularity. The company achieved this by first lowering the price of their manga to a consistent price point of about 10$ (US) per volume. They achieved this by not translating sound effects (which required much touching up of the original art), and not flipping the pages like was done in most English manga in the 1990s—this was advertised as a feature and indeed was appealing to many fans. The lower price point was also more appe ...

All Grown Up: Encyclopedia II - Chuckie Finster - Rugrats

One of the original five main characters introduced in Rugrats, Chuckie has uncontrollable red hair, glasses and bucked teeth, and is left-handed, as revealed in "Chuckie's a Lefty" (first US tx: February 19, 1999). Chuckie commonly wears a blue shirt with Saturn on it, green shorts, and red shoes with untied shoelaces. He is scared easily, but is still friends with Tommy Pickles and the DeVille twins. Among his fears are adventures, Santa Claus, clowns, and the "guy on the oatmeal box" (a parody of Quaker Oats). He is loyal and often ...

All Grown Up: Encyclopedia II - Chuckie Finster - The Fans' Standpoint

In Rugrats, Chuckie was one of the most popular characters, as he represented a timid boy who had many challenges before him, and, despite his fear, would always overcome them. He was a truly original character that had a lot of potential story-wise. His character was greatly explored throughout the series, eventually culminating in him being the focus of the Mother's Day episode (where the fate and identity of his mother, Melinda, was finally revealed) as well as the second Rugrats movie Rugrats in Paris, where he not only gained a new stepmother and ste ...

Since he got older, Chuckie has been wearing braces for his teeth (which is expected to be for "2.5 years", according to Chuckie's statement in the pilot for All Grown Up!). He still considers Tommy his best friend. Notable storylines for Chuckie have included his crush on Nicole Boscarelli, dropped after the first season ("Chuckie's in Love" and "It's Cupid, Stupid", first US txs: December 6, 2003 and February 14, 2004); partnering with Angelica on a social-studies project ("Project Chuckie", first US tx: November 27, 2004); entering ...

All Grown Up: Encyclopedia II - Drawn Together - Previously on Drawn Together

An aborted first season feature of the show was the "last week" segments showing possible outcomes of other episodes. This was a parody of serial dramas, which typically begin with a sensationalized recap of previous events. (In the event of Drawn Together, the events depicted did not actually occur on the show.) Four were produced but not used, but were included on the Season One DVD set. I: In a parody of Full Metal Jacket, shown in night vision, the housemates gather around a sleeping Toot, gag her, and then beat her with bars of soap in so ...

In summer 2004, TOKYOPOP founded its first foreign branch in Germany, headquartered in Hamburg. The first manga and manhwa by TOKYOPOP Germany were published in November 2004, and the first anime in late summer 2005. They were the first German manga distributor to release Chinese comics (Manhua). Also in 2004, TOKYOPOP set up a London, UK office that mainly imports books from the USA and distributes them into bookstores in the United Kingdom. They currently do not have any plans to release anime in the UK; however, Vampire Princess Miyu was released on DVD by MVM Entertainment, and Kids TV channel Toonami aired ...

All Grown Up: Encyclopedia II - 2000s - Names of the decade

In contrast to the decades from 1920 to 1999, which are called "The Twenties", "The Nineties", and the like; the '00s have had no generally-accepted name. The term "The Two Thousands" is fairly common, but many still find its use awkward and incorrect for a number of reasons, notably the fact that formally, the "Two Thousands" will last for a thousand years and not just the ten years of the "00" decade. It is occasionally termed, in historical contexts, the "turn of the millennium" or "turn of the century" (or "turn of the new ...

2000s - United States. Fashion slowly becomes less grungy and more excessive as the wearing of flannel by people under 30 declines and acid-washed jeans and shaggy hair become again commonplace for boys and men. For girls and women hoop earrings, originally popular in the 1980s and early 1990s, return to style circa 2004. Wearing baseball caps backwards peacefully falls out of style, in favor of wearing them sideways or forwards. Sunglasses begin to become less widespread as a fashion statement, un ...

All Grown Up: Encyclopedia II - 2000s - Criticisms of the Decade

The 2000s are so far not a highly regarded decade by most people in the world as many find the 1990s to have been a much more prosperous time and look fondly upon earlier decades such as the 1960s and 1980s. While not a criticism per se as many people still love the 1990s, some others look down on the decade for upholding so many tired 1990s fads, fashions, and music genres (see New Nineties). Quite interestly, many people who are fond of the 1990s dislike the 2000s because they perceive them as similar to the 1980s for various reasons, mostly relating to politics but also to t ...
