Afraid: How Yoga is a way of conquering Death

All are terribly afraid of death. No one wants to die. Even intellectual persons who have grasped the idea that the Soul is Immortal and is distinct from the body are also awfully afraid of death. Yoga is actually a way of conquering Death!

The death and dying and the life after death has always fascinated man. This is an excerpt from the book What Becomes Of The Soul After Death by Sri Swami Sivananda.

Afraid: What Is Death And How To Conquer It

Death is only a change of form. Death is only separation of the astral body from the physical body.
Birth follows death just as waking follows sleep. You will again resume the work that was left off by you in your previous life. Therefore, do not be afraid of death.

This is an excerpt from the book What Becomes Of The Soul After Death by Sri Swami Sivananda.

Afraid: Law of Attraction - Turbo-charges Dating

When you're looking for love, and you really, really want to find it, in most cases you actually empower you not having a loving relationship.

People who really want or need to feel loved are probably deep down (or openly) afraid that they are never going to find someone to love and that they aren't deserving of love.

The Universe treats the fears these people have as commands.

Afraid: Moksha - Break Free from Fear of Death

Death perhaps is the only certainty in this world. Yet, the fear of death stalks most people. Literature - western and Indian - regards the fear of death as an intriguing and ubiquitous part of human life. We know we are mortals, yet we are afraid of the inevitable. We know we will die one day; yet we continue to behave as though we believe we are going to live forever.

In Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Caesar is surprised to find that people are frightened of death, which is after all an end that comes when it will. A similar spirit pervades the renowned dialogue between the Yaksha and Yudhishthira in the Mahabharata.

Afraid: Accept Your Good - About Acceptance

Acceptance can be an emotionally loaded subject. Some people get upset because they think that they are accepting of their good, but it isn't showing up in their lives. They want increased prosperity, more health, better relationships, and say, "I accept it, but why isn't it here?" Other people believe that they'll be selfish if they open themselves up for Universal good. Somehow, they're afraid they're taking it from others. Many blocks to a better life stem from old feelings of guilt or unworthiness. We may not be aware of the feelings, but we get to experience the results by not accepting all that the Universe gives us.

Afraid: Talking Board Basics

A wide range of experiences has been reported with "Ouija" or "talking boards." Like anything in life, the result you get will depend upon your intentions and expectations going in. Opening up to other dimensions via such a medium is a bit like walking a tightrope. An innocent who doesn't know enough to be afraid may sail across the rope just like it was two feet off the ground. A mature and responsible adult may find the experience expansive, enlightening, and thrilling. A reckless, thoughtless young person, on the other hand, who lacks respect for the power of the situation, may find himself or herself tumbling into an abyss with no net in sight.

Afraid: The Universe, Part II Pragmatism and Desire

We are trying to entertain the idea that the universe is like a great teaching so that we will be less afraid to question the picture of the universe that modern science gives us.

For most of us, the initial obstacle in this effort at skepticism is that science seems to work so well. A physicist I know once likened contemporary people, including himself and his fellow scientists, to a mob of savages so bedazzled by an interloper's tricks and baubles that they immediately make him into a god. It is really no laughing matter, this slavery to what we call the pragmatic criterion. We nee to look at it more closely.

This is part II from the first chapter of Jacob Needlemans book A Sense of The Cosmos

Afraid: Encyclopedia - Mandodari

Mandodari was the daughter of the King of Danavas, Mayasura and celestial dancer, Hema. Mandodari was a very pious woman who was afraid of nothing except for untruth and unrighteousness. She was considered very beautiful and therefore, because of her appeal, she was married to Ravana. She was the first wife of the Lord of Lanka and was the favorite one as well. She was the mother of Indrajit, who was very powerful and strong and conquered Indra, king of the Gods.

Afraid: Encyclopedia - Aker

In Egyptian mythology, Aker (also spelt Akar) was one of the earliest gods worshipped, and was the deification of the horizon. There are strong indications that Aker was worshipped before other known Egyptian gods of the earth, such as Geb. In particular, the Pyramid texts make a sinister statement that the Akeru (plural of Aker) will not seize the pharaoh, as if this were something that might have happened, and was something of which to be afraid. Aker itself translates as (one who) bends, and thus Akeru translates as benders, though in what se ...

Afraid: Encyclopedia - Kamakhya

Kamaakhya is an aspect of the Hindu goddess Sati. A temple in her honour exists in the Kamrup district of Assam state, India. The temple is one of the 52 holy Shakti Peethas related to Sati. According to legend, the goddess Sati burned herself of the sacrificial fire at her father Dakshya's abode because her father was scornful of her husband the God Shiva. (This incident gave rise to the custom of sati in India). In a rage, Shiva began his Dance of Death(tandava) to bring the destruction of the Universe. The other gods, afraid ...

Afraid: Encyclopedia - Maricha

In Hindu mythology, Maricha was a demon who played a very important part in twisting the tale of Ramayana. He was thrown into a remote island by the arrow of Lord Rama when he tried to interrupt Sage Vishwamitras yaga. After that he became very much afraid of the very mention of the name Rama. ( Rama is described as Maareechaadini paataka Ram in Nama Ramayana - a Sanskrit verse eulogising Rama ) Ravana wants to kidnap Sita and so asks for Maricha's help, who then turns himself into a golden deer. The golden lustur ...

Afraid: Encyclopedia - Battle of Potidaea

The Battle of Potidaea was, with the Battle of Sybota, one of the catalysts for the Peloponnesian War. It was fought near Potidaea in 432 BC between Athens and a combined army from Corinth and Potidaea, along with their various allies. Potidaea was a colony of Corinth on the Chalcidice peninsula, but was a member of the Delian League and paid tribute to Athens. After Sybota, Athens demanded that Potidaea pull down part of its walls, expel Corinthian ambassadors, and send hostages to Athens. Athens was afraid that Potidaea would revolt due to Corinthian or Macedonian influence, as Perdiccas II of Macedon was ...

Afraid: Encyclopedia - Black magic

Black magic is seen as the branch of magic used to perform evil acts or draw on malevolent powers. Black magic is believed to be invoked to kill, injure, cause destruction, or for personal gain. Black magic is normally a term used to describe a form of ritual that is not approved of by a group or person, however not everything named black magic is truly being done by the practitioner with malevolent intentions. In the Inquisition, Christians were afraid of witches and warlocks practicing evil black magic. In modern times, witches and warlocks will use the term to describe the bad magic they do not do in co ...

Angel Investigations is the name of a detective agency run by the title character Angel on the WB television series Angel (a spin-off from Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Born in Sverdlovsk, Russia, on November 16, 1971, Alexander Popov (also spelt as Aleksandr Popov and in Russian: Александр Попов) would grow up to be one of the world's best swimmers of 1990s. He began swimming at 8, and at that time, was afraid of the water. However, his father insisted on him taking swimming lessons, and in his own words, he has "been stuck there ever since". Afraid: Encyclopedia - Agoraphobia

Agoraphobia is a form of anxiety disorder. The word is an English adoption of the Greek words agora (αγορά) and phobos (φόβος). Literally translated in modern Greek as "a fear of the marketplace". A common misconception is that agoraphobia is a fear of open spaces. This is most often not the case since people suffering from agoraphobia usually are not afraid of the open spaces themselves, but of public spaces or of situations often associated with these spaces. The Greek word agora should be interpreted ...
