Action Man: Encyclopedia - Action Man

Action Man is an action figure originally produced and sold in the United Kingdom by Palitoy Ltd of Coalville, Leicestershire from 1966 until 1984. The figure was originally based on the United States G.I. Joe figure but with a British military theme. Military styled Action Man made a brief resurgance in the early 1990s but since 1996 Hasbro has used the name without any military theme as a modern adventurer complete with arch-enemy. Action Man - Origins. Palitoy (a British subsidiary of General Mills) licensed a copy of GI Joe from Hasbro. Initially Action Man, his equipment and accessories were all straight copies of GI Joe, but after a while he developed independently. The range of accessories favoured the British themes, although American outfits and equipment were produced. One of Palitoy's innovations was the flocked hair which crossed over to the GI Joe line. The first Action Man figures were Action Soldier, Action Sailor and Action Pilot. They were accompanied by outfits depicting the participants ...

Action Man: Encyclopedia II - A.T.O.M - The Toyline

Distinctly different from other Action Man toyline variations, A.T.O.Ms' selling point is that the figures are the standard size of normal action figures, and not of a doll format, much like Action Man however, these figures are sold individually, usually with figure accessories, from the veichles distributed to accompany them. The franchise takes much of its' inspiration from the 1980s' M.A.S.K toyline from Kenner (which Hasbro bought in 1991), (even down to the code name lettering), as each veichle for the A.T.O.M members changes fr ...

Action Man: Encyclopedia II - Fox Kids - History

According to James B. Stewart's DisneyWar, Fox Kids' history is intertwined with the history of The Disney Afternoon. Afternoon launched on Fox's owned-and-operated stations, as well as the various Fox affiliates. This was due in no small part to the fact that then Disney CEO Michael Eisner and then Fox head Barry Diller had worked together at the ABC network and at Paramount Pictures. When Disney lauched a Los Angeles television station, KCAL-TV, it wanted Afternoon to be shown on it, thus taking it away from Fox ...
