 | | | Acharyas: Parable Of The King And The Poet-Thief Night was falling. The moon was playing hide and seek with the clouds. The trees were swaying with a gentle breeze. The king looked out of the window of his palace. His city seemed to be in deep slumber. He settled down in his bed but try as he might, he could not fall asleep. When one cannot fall asleep, one's mind starts wandering. The king found himself thinking about his life. "What do I not have?" thought the king as he calculated his assets. He had everything. He enumerated all that he was blessed with and found himself composing a verse: "Queens of unrivalled beauty and law-abiding citizens. Men of unparalleled sincerity and soft-spoken servants. Armies of trumpeting elephants and wind-paced horses..." | | | Acharyas: Tension of
Opposites Central to ExistenceJainism: Tension of Opposites Central to Existence According to Acharya Mahaprajna, opposition is a fundamental rule for existence. "There is no type of existence in which opposites do not co-exist. In a sense, existence may also be defined as the coming together of opposites. It is the principle of the quest for unity between two apparently different characteristics of a substance. It tries to point out that the characteristics which differences have, also have an identicality. Reconciliation, which is a principle of anekant , comes about only with the recognition of the identity principle.'' Read more here: » Tension of Opposites: Tension of

 | | | Acharyas: Guru, God and Self are Synonymous Indian culture has always held the guru in high esteem. Having a master was not just considered a matter of pride, but it was mandatory to have a guru. Not having a master was looked down upon as being an orphan, being poor and a sign of misfortune. The word anatha in Sanskrit means one without a master. An acharya (teacher) gives shiksha, which means knowledge; Guru gives diksha, which means heightened awareness.
