According to Ibn Ishaq, it was revealed in Makka, some time before the Isra and Miraj, when al-As ibn Wa'il as-Sahmi said of Muhammad that he was "a man who is cut off and is of no consequence, and if he were killed, he would be forgotten"; others report that it was revealed in regard to Ka'b ibn al-Ashraf (according to al-Bazz ...

Abu Lahab: Encyclopedia II - Battle of Badr - The March to Badr

In the spring of 624, Muhammad received word from his intelligence sources that a large trade caravan commanded by Abu Sufyan, one of the richest of the year and guarded by thirty-forty men, was travelling from Syria to Mecca. Because of the caravan's size, or perhaps because of the previous failures to intercept a caravan, Muhammad gathered an army of over 300 men, the largest army the Muslims had ever put in the field.[8] Not only did Muhammad command the army himself, he also brought many of his to ...

Abu Lahab: Encyclopedia II - Tabarra - Shia and Sunni differences

Since Shias and Sunnis have different sources of hadith, they tend to come to diffrent conclusions regarding whom the enemies of Ahl al-Bayt are. In some cases Sunni and Shia have the same view, for example regarding Abu Lahab, Abu Jahl and Umayah ibn Khalaf. But controverses arise concerning Sahabas since Sunnis belive in the Uprightness of all Sahaba while Shia do not. Due to the Shia view of early Muslim history, one Shia scholar stated: Regarding the doctrine of' 'Tabarri' we believe that we should se ...

Abu Lahab: Encyclopedia II - Battle of Badr - The Battle

At dawn on March 17, the Quraish broke camp and marched into the valley of Badr. It had rained the previous day and they struggled to move their horses and camels up the hill of 'Aqanqal (Sources say the sun was already up by the time they reached the summit).[23] After they descended from 'Aqanqal, the Meccans set up another camp inside the valley. While they rested, they sent out a scout, Umayr ibn Wahb to reconoiter the Muslim lines. Umayr reported that Muhammad's army was small, and that there we ...

Abu Lahab: Encyclopedia II - Battle of Badr - Badr in the Quran

The Battle of Badr is one of the few battles explicitly discussed in the Quran. It is even mentioned by name in Sura 3:123, as part of a comparison with the Battle of Uhud. Allah had helped you at Badr, when ye were a contemptible little force; then fear Allah; thus May ye show your gratitude. Remember thou saidst to the Faithful: "Is it not enough for you that Allah should help you with three thousand angels (Specially) sent down? "Yea, - if ye remain firm, and act aright, even if the enemy should rush here on you in hot haste, your Lord ...

Abu Lahab: Encyclopedia II - Battle of Badr - Badr in history

Virtually all contemporary knowledge of the Battle of Badr comes from traditional Islamic accounts, both hadiths and biographies of Muhammad, written down decades after the battle. There are several reasons for this: first, many Arabs of the Arabian peninsula were illiterate (Including Muhammad) and oral traditions were the default method of passing on information. By the time the Armies of Islam had conquered the more literate Arabs of Syria and Iraq, practically all Quraish had been converted to Islam, eliminating any chance of a non-Musli ...

Every Muslim believes it to be their duty to disassociate themselves from the enemies of God and his Messengers. Muslims differ on whom to consider to be the enemies of God, Muhammad and the Ahl al-Bayt. Every Muslim considers being the enemy of God, Muhammad and Ahl al-Bayt as the same. For brevity, only Ahl al Bayt will be mentioned in this article. The doctrine of Tabarra itself does not dictate whom to disassociate from or whom to associate with. It dictates the disassociation of those indentified as enemies of Ahl al-bayt. The ide ...

Nowdays in places where there is no need of using taqiyya, for example in their own country, like Iran, in the west or on the Internet they feel free to publicly pray for curse when doing tabarra. However, this still causes Sunnis to feel dislike when confronted with the prayers. Due to some hadith attributed to the Shia Imams, some Shia scholars have argued that it is not permissible to pray for divine curse upon Sahaba in front of Sunnis, since that would hurt their f ...
