Abduction: Encyclopedia II - Greys - Supposedly genuine appearances

The Hill Abduction incident also involved creatures vaguely similar to Greys, and probably represents the prototypical story of alleged human encounters with these beings. Harvard Medical School professor Dr. John Edward Mack claims that many of his clients have had encounters with the greys. His books Abduction and Passport to the Cosmos describe his patients' spiritual transformations and awakening o ...

Abduction: Encyclopedia II - Kidnapping - Kidnapping in English law

This is a common law offense requiring: that one person takes and carries another away; by force or fraud; without the consent of the person taken; and without lawful excuse. It would be difficult to kidnap without also committing false imprisonment which is the common law offense of intentionally or recklessly detaining the victim. The use of force to take and detain will also be an assault an ...

Abduction: Encyclopedia II - Kidnapping - Scope of application in the United States

In criminal law, kidnapping is the taking away (asportation) of a person against the person's will, usually to hold the person in false imprisonment (confinement without legal authority) for ransom or in furtherance of another crime. A majority of jurisdictions in the United States retain the "asportation" element for kidnapping (i.e. the victim must be confined in a bounded area against their will AND moved). Any amount of movement will do, even if it is just literally "down the street." In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, however, ...

Abduction: Encyclopedia II - Marc Dutroux - The trial

Dutroux's trial began on March 1, 2004, some seven and a half years after his initial arrest. It was a trial by jury and up to 450 people were called upon to testify. The trial took place in Arlon, the capital of the Belgian province of Luxembourg, where investigations started. Dutroux was tried for the murder of An Marchal, Eefje Lambrecks and his suspected accomplice Bernard Weinstein. While admitting the abductions, he denied all three killings, but earlier had confessed to the killing of Weinstein. Dutroux was also charged with a host of other crimes: auto theft, abduction, attempted murder and attempted abduction, molestation, and thr ...

Abduction: Encyclopedia II - Persephone - Overview

The figure of Persephone is a well-known one today. Her story has great emotional power: an innocent maiden; a mother's grief at the abduction and the return of her daughter. It is also cited frequently as a paradigm of myths that explain natural processes, with the descent and return of the goddess bringing about the change of seasons. But the Greeks knew another face of Persephone as well. She was also the terrible Queen of the dead, whose name was not safe to speak aloud, who was named simply "The Maiden". Her central myth, for all ...

He was a graduate of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute and was Board certified in child and adult psychoanalysis. Abduction: Encyclopedia II - Donald Neilson - The grim discovery

Previously, senior crime officers from Scotland Yard had discounted a full search of Bathpool Park, claiming there would be nothing to find. However, on the discovery of the Morris 1300, a search was immediately ordered, and the shaft was found where Lesley's naked body was discovered hanging from a wire cable. Her feet were only a few inches from the ground. Almost two months had passed since the day she was abducted, though the post-mortem suggested she had been killed within 48 hours of her capture. Had the police conducted a search when Neilson issued his ...

Abduction: Encyclopedia II - Michael S. Heiser - UFOs and conspiracies

Heiser considers it likely, along with a recent movement in the Evangelical Christian community, that there are similarities between the Alien abduction scenario and the events of Genesis six which speaks of “the giants” (Heb. Nephilim) which where products of a kind of cohabitation between humans and enigmatic “B’nai Elohim” (Heb: "sons of god"). The general conclusion is that these beings are fallen angels who descended to Earth to taint humanity's gene pool (supposedly to prevent J'hushua from being born, wh ...

Abduction: Encyclopedia II - Extradition - Controversies

Extradition - International strains. The refusal for a country to extradite suspects or criminals to another may lead to international relations being strained. Often, the country to which extradition is refused will accuse the other country of refusing extradition for political reasons (whether or not this is justified). As an example: Some US journalists and officials of the state of Pennsylvania accused France of wanting to make a point about justice in the United States and the death penalty by r ...

Abduction: Encyclopedia II - Sita Devi - Legend

Sita is one of the principal characters of the "Ramayana", the Hindu epic named after her husband Rama. Sita was a foundling, discovered in a furrow in a ploughed field, and for that reason is regarded as a daughter of Bhumidevi, the Earth Goddess. She was found and adopted by Janaka, King of Mithila, and his wife Sunayana. Upon coming of age, a Swayamvara was held to select a suitable husband for her, and she was wed to Rama, prince of Ayodhya, an avatara of Vishnu. Sit ...

Abduction: Encyclopedia II - Marc Dutroux - Shortcomings of the investigation public outcry

Authorities were criticised for various aspects of the case. Perhaps most notably, police searched Dutroux's house on December 13, 1995 and again on December 19, 1995 in relation to his car theft charge. During this time, Julie Lejeune and Mélissa Russo were still alive in the basement dungeon, but they were not found. Since the search was unrelated to kidnapping charges, police searching the house had no dogs or specialised equipment that may ...

False memory - Sexual abuse. False memory has figured prominently in many investigations and court cases, including cases of alleged sexual abuse. Abduction: Encyclopedia II - Anomalous phenomenon - Introduction

Out-of-body experiences, near-death experiences, extrasensory perception, ghosts, demonic encounters, poltergeists, as well as sightings of UFOs and reports of alien abductions are phenomena, most of which are not widely accepted as real by mainstream scientists, some of whom go as far as calling the study of them pseudoscience. Sometimes the phenomenon is acknowledged as being real, but then the way it ...

Abduction: Encyclopedia II - False memory - Background

It is common experience that memory is unreliable to some degree, whether by failing to remember things or remembering incorrectly. Less commonly known is the fact that eyewitness identification in criminal cases is another example of unreliable memory, recently addressed by changes in police procedure in a number of states and counties in the United States. (Of the first 130 DNA exonerations, 111, or about 85%, were mistaken-ID cases.) Yet there is considerable controversy connected with false memories. Our sense of identity, of who ...

Abduction: Encyclopedia II - False memory - Criticisms of recovered memory therapy

Although there is genuine concern that important memories may be buried and need uncovering, there is concern that the goal of neutral truth may be forgotten, compared to the belief that they must exist and be found, and that lives are therefore devastated by the pressure to find such memories when such events often may not have happened, or may be misinterpreted. Critics, such as FMS advocates, claim that recovered memory therapists often have a non-neutral interest in proving that such experiences happened, and use techniques simila ...
