His name was Shaiba ibn Hashim, but he became known as Abd-al-Muttalib ibn Hashim. His father was Hashim ibn Abd al-Manaf and his mother was Salma bint Amr of the tribe of an-Najjar. When his father died, his uncle Muttalib ibn Abd al-Manaf succeeded his father. When Muttalib died, Shaiba succeeded him as the chief of the Banu Hashim clan. Shaiba ibn Hashim

His name was Shaiba ibn Hashim, but he became known as Abd-al-Muttalib ibn Hashim.

Abdallah ibn Abd al-Muttalib was the father of the prophet Muhammad. Muhammad's mother was Aminah bint Wahab.

Abdallah died 4 months before Muhammad was born, and Aminah bint Wahab was taken care of by Shaiba. Aminah also died when Muhammad was 5 years old. Shaiba died when Muhammad was 8 years old. He was then taken care of by Abu Talib ibn Abdul Muttalib.

Shaiba ibn Hashim was also the grandfather of Ali ibn Abu Talib, who was the cousin of Muhammad and also the first Imam according to Shia Muslims and the fourth and last of the rightly guided caliphs according to the Sunni Muslims.
