He Joined the Indian Police Service on 1 May 1927 and Posted to Thanjavur. He worked in various grades as SP, DIG, and later on became the Commissioner of Police, Madras. He had worked in the then entire Madras Presidency covering the parts of Orissa to South Canara and Kerala. He was Proficient in Telugu, Urdu besides English and Tamil.

S. Parthasarathi Ayyangar - Police Career
In 1926 he took the Prestigious Imerial Police Examination ( No IAS or IPS in those days). He Joined the Indian Police Service on 1 May 1927 and Posted to Thanjavur. He worked in various grades as SP, DIG, and later on became the Commissioner of Police, Madras. As per the wishes of the late Sir C.P.Ramswamy Iyer the then Diwan of the old State of Travancore, Sri Parthasarahi was seconded to Travancore state as Inspector General of Police and worked from 1944 - 1947. At the time of Independence he opted back to Madras State declining an offer for service in the Commonwealth.
on 11 June 1953 he was appointed the Commissioner of Police of Madras City which he served for full three years. As a Commissioner of Police he was accessible even to the members of Lowest Strata of Society and took interest in solving their problems. He was always humane in his approach, applying Laws of Justice. He enjoyed a great reputation for Honesty and uprightness.
