Mark Lamonica - Career
Lamonica started wrestling in 1991 as Mongo Vyle. He soon turned up in ECW as the dancing Dudley brother. He also had a stuttering gimmick, and would stutter while pronouncing his name until Big Dick Dudley hit him in the chest with a crutch. He went on, with his "half brother" D-Von Dudley, to become the most successful team ever in ECW, winning the Tag Team Titles 8 times. Among their feuds there were The Eliminators (Perry Saturn and John Kronus), The Gangstas (New Jack and Mustafa), as well as "half brother" Spike and Balls Mahoney. They were known for saying whatever it took during in ring interviews to rile up the fans, causing a few riots and several incidents where riots were barely diverted.
After arriving in World Wrestling Entertainment in 1999, they have feuded with the Hardy Boyz, Edge and Christian and the APA, Faarooq and Bradshaw. The Dudley Boyz were part of The Alliance of WCW/ECW wrestlers who tried to take over WWE in 2001. Bubba and D-Von continued to wrestle in WWE after the Invasion, winning tag team gold on many occasions. After Wrestlemania 20 they wear traded to the Smackdown! brand. Their they wrestled on many occasions in main events as heels. In November of 2004 they wear granted a long period of time off, wear they wouldn't appear on WWE TV again except for ECW One Night Stand.
On July 5, 2005 WWE opted not to continue contract renewal negotiations with Lamonica, as well as his partner D-Von. There are rumors that Stephanie McMahon had a hand in it, perhaps a disagreement between her and the Dudley Boyz, but this is not certain. In addition, fifteen other wrestlers were released by WWE, which was decreasing its spending as a result of a fall in projected revenue. Later, WWE would go on to stop Lamonica, Devon Hughes, and Matt Hyson (Spike) from using any aspect of the Dudley gimmick in any other promotion, in an act seen by many as disrespectful, and hurtful to the wrestlers as the gimmicks are very much apart of their business, and were constructed long before their use in WWE.
On September 21, 2005, it was announced that Lamonica and Hughes had been signed to multi-year contracts by Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. The pair debuted on Spike TV on October 1 under the new name of Team 3D. Lamonica is now known as Brother Ray, while Hughes is known as Brother Devon. The name Deadly Death Drop was also copyrighted which is believed to be the new name for the Dudley Death Drop (3D). [1]
Team 3D made their first appearance on the October 1 episode of TNA iMPACT!, helping save 3Live Kru from Planet Jarrett and Team Canada. Brother Ray and Brother Devon were further assisted by Kevin Nash. At the end of the show (it was cut from the show itself, but appeared on TNA's website), Brother Ray in a shoot promo told "those good, decent people in Stamford, Connecticut" (referring to the city where WWE headquarters is based) to "trademark this", at which both he and Devon flipped the bird to the camera.
Team 3D would go on to fued with TNA Wrestling's top tag team, and reigning NWA World Tag Team Champions, America's Most Wanted. At the Turning Point PPV, Team 3D sucessfully defeated AMW in a non-title Tables match.
