Johann Hari - Journalism
Since 2003 he has been a columnist for The Independent, on Wednesdays and Fridays, and his work has also appeared in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Le Monde and Ha'aretz. Since September 2005 he has also written a weekly column for the London Evening Standard.
His causes include environmentalism, the legalisation of drugs, prison reform, and defending asylum seekers and refugees. He opposes the IMF and World Bank, which he calls "agents of market fundamentalism"; calls for a Palestinian state; and often criticises religion, which he calls "organised superstition". He has written on the role of corporations in the genocide in Darfur.
Hari has reported from Iraq, Israel/Palestine and Venezuela. He has won several awards. In 2005, he became the youngest person to be nominated for the Orwell Prize.
