Family Affair was a situation comedy television series that aired on CBS from September 12, 1966 to March 4, 1971 and repeats through September 9, 1971. The series explored the trials of well-to-do bachelor Bill Davis (Keith) as he attempted to raise his brother's orphaned children. Davis' butler Mr. Giles French (Cabot) also had adjustments to make as he was usually saddled with the responsibility of caring for the children, 15-year-old Cissy (Garver) and 6-year-old twins, Jody (Whitaker) and Buffy (Jones). The show ran for 138 episodes.
Much of the shows charm came from the honesty of the characters: two sincere middle-aged men and two happy, polite and believeable early grade-school children who were free to express what amounted to social commentary with only the adults to worry about the more complex realities. Even Buffy's use of her doll, Mrs. Beasley, as her make-believe playmate and advisor, while contrieved, was believeable because of the guileless execution with with Jones delievered her lines.
Family Affair was originally created and produced by Don Fedderson. Frank De Vol's title tune was an easily recognizable and memorable TV theme melody.
Family Affair - Brief Revival
A short-lived revival of the series aired on The WB Television Network from September 12, 2002 to March 27, 2003. It was produced by Sid and Marty Krofft and lasted for only 16 episodes (only 14 of the 16 were aired).
