Daly City, California
Daly City, known as the “Gateway to the Peninsula”, is located in San Mateo County, California, United States, directly south of San Francisco, California. It was named after a prominent businessman and landowner, John Daly. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 103,621. Daly City and a few communities in Los Angeles and Santa Clara Counties (such as Monterey Park, Milpitas and Rowland Heights) are the only majority-Asian cities in the continental United States. Most of the Asian Americans residing in Daly City are Filipino Americans. Daly City is home to the only wholly Karaite synagogue in the United States, Bnei Yisrael.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 19.6 km² (7.6 mi²). 19.6 km² (7.6 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there are 103,621 people, 30,775 households, and 23,081 families residing in the city. The population density is 5,292.1/km² (13,703.8/mi²). There are 31,311 housing units at an average density of 1,599.1/km² (4,140.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 25.90% White, 4.56% African American, 0.44% Native American, 50.69% Asian, 0.91% Pacific Islander, 11.32% from other races, and 6.19% from two or more races. 22.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 30,775 households out of which 34.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% are married couples living together, 14.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.0% are non-families. 18.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.34 and the average family size is 3.78.
In the city the population is spread out with 22.5% under the age of 18, 10.5% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $62,310, and the median income for a family is $68,365. Males have a median income of $38,227 versus $32,147 for females. The per capita income for the city is $21,900. 7.1% of the population and 4.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.4% of those under the age of 18 and 5.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
Daly City California - Transportation
Daly City’s highway infrastructure includes State Routes 1, 35 and 82, and Interstate 280. Interstate 280, which bisects Daly City, is a primary transportation corridor linking San Francisco with San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Public transportation is provided by SamTrans, BART (At the Daly City Station), and some San Francisco Muni lines. Daly City is approximately eight miles south of downtown San Francisco and the San Francisco International Airport is just nine miles from the City; both are easily accessible by freeway or BART.
Daly City California - Entertainment
One of the Bay Area's major venues, the Cow Palace, straddles the border between Daly City and San Francisco.
Another major attraction is the Century 20 Movie Theater, opened in the summer of 2002. The complex is a part of the Pacific Plaza, which also includes nearby office buildings and various restaurants and eateries.
