Billy Madison - Plot
Billy is the adult son of a hotel tycoon, who spends most of his time goofing off. When his father (McGavin) announces his retirement, he chooses his scheming vice president (Whitford) to run the company, not Billy. When he asks why his father didn't choose him, he told him that he had bribed teachers for him to get through school. Billy makes a bet that he is smart enough to run the company. If he goes back to school starting from first grade to twelfth, and graduates each grade in two weeks, he gains control of his father's company, Madison Hotels. He ends up in a battle with Whitford over the legitimacy of him passing school, and compete in a decathlon involving academics and other skills obtained in school. He eventually wins on the final event, but then turns the company over to another one of his father's employees so that he may go on to college.
Billy Madison - Trivia
- When Eric sets Billy up, Billy grabs him and kisses him and says, "You Broke My Heart." This in reference to The Godfather Part II where the same happens between Mike and his brother.
- The lunchlady pouring the sloppy joes onto the kids plates in school is a reference to Adam Sandler's song "Lunchlady Land", that appeared on his album "They're All Gunna Laugh At You"
- Happy Madison, Adam Sandler's film production company, take its title from this film and the following year's Happy Gilmore, also starring Sandler.
