Berwickshire was formerly a county, but was abolished in 1975. From 1975 until 1996 Berwickshire was a District Council within the former Borders Regional Council.
Its traditional county town, after which it is named, had been Berwick-upon-Tweed but that is now considered to be part of the English county of Northumberland. The county was sometimes unofficially called Dunsshire because of this anomaly.

Berwickshire
