World Championship: Encyclopedia - World Championship

A World Championship(s) is any contest or series of contests (which may work alongside a ranking system) to determine the best nation, team, individual (or other entity) in the world in a particular field. The first sport to declare a world champion was real tennis, starting in 1740. Certain sports do not have a World Championships, instead they may organise a World Cup, or they may organise both. Certain sports do not have a World Championships or a World Cup as such, but may have one or several World Champions. Professional B
