The village is situated between a farmland and a forest setting. The forests of parnitha mainly of pines, cedars and fir trees along with hiking routes lie to the west while farmlands are to the east. Suburban housing came in the 1980s and continues in the 2000s. On August 5, 1998, the 1998 forest fires in Greece at 3 pm EET (EEST) (12 pm UTC/GMT) raged west of the superhighway and engulfed four factories in the area. The September 1999 earthquake affected some homes but caused minor damaged. Properties further north did not cause any damages in that earthquake.
