Urd (Oh My Goddess!)

Urd (ウルド Urudo) is a character in the popular Oh My Goddess! manga and anime, voiced by Toma Yumi (冬馬由美).

Urd Oh My Goddess! - Biography

Urd is Belldandy's older sister and is the second Goddess to appear to Keiichi. Urd ranks as Goddess second class, limited license, management category simmilar to her youngest sister Skuld.

She is also a self-appointed Goddess of love, though she has proven she is not cut out for such a post as she tries to solve every problem by using her powers and knowledge of potions which generally makes matters worse and her license is limited for that reason. Despite passing the examination to become a first class Goddess, Urd chooses to remain at her rank as a second class Goddess, so as to use her powers more freely for those she cares about most. Urd recharges her energy by drinking sake and travels via television screens. She is the goddess of the past.

As she demonstrates in the manga, she does have immense control over her power. She was able to draw her personal sigil using first class lightning magic on her first attempt, a task that even the First Class Goddess Peorth required numerous attempts before successfully completing.

While Urd has a common father as her younger sisters (Belldandy, Skuld), Urd has a different mother, Hild. Because of this Urd is half-Goddess and half-Demon (due to her Demon mother) which her Angel, World of Elegance, reflects being half-black and half-white. Perhaps due to her Demon heritage, Austrian Polka (manga) or Enka music (TV series) will render Urd asleep in an instant and she won't be able to wake up until the music ceases.

Urd abandoned her post to travel to Earth in order make Belldandy and Keiichi more intimate with each other. For leaving in the middle of work The Almighty banished her from Heaven until further notice.

Urd Oh My Goddess! - Personality

Belldandy describes Urd as being "very passionate about everything she does" following basically an ends justifies the means philosophy, and as she puts it: "...she gets so wrapped up in the means that she forgets what the end was.". Thus, Urd is impulsive, often acting first without fully considering the consequences. She is also a constant meddler, seemingly unable to leave matters to their natural flow such as the relationship between Keiichi and Belldandy.

Urd is also short tempered, and is rather easy to irritate and anger. Urd is a compulsive liar. One reason why her license is limited is that Goddesses are prohibited from lying although she has never had her license suspended for lying. She is more than willing to distort the truth if needed to accomplish an objective however she is not a pathological liar.

Urd seems to have an amazing tendency to have her plans backfire perhaps due to her over interference and overuse of magic to solve even the smallest task such as trying to stir eggs with lightning bolts resulting in her blowing up the kitchen. Also quite often, something will happen to louse up whatever scheme she is currently cooking up such as drinking one of her own love potions.
