Trigun characters - Legato Bluesummers
Legato Bluesummers (レガート・ブルーサマーズ Regāto Burūsamāzu) loves death, and devotes his life to making Vash the Stampede experience eternal pain and suffering.
He is the telepathic leader of the Gung-Ho Guns. His strong resonance with Vash as well as his psychic powers actually stems from the fact that Vash's left arm is grafted onto him; its plant properties give him powers that are not inherently human. He can force his victims to do anything he wishes through telepathic control. He sees Knives as a god.
In the manga, he is crushed by Knives for trying to kill Vash, and is consequently restricted to a coffin-like container, using his telepathy when he would normally need hands. His coffin is carried by a mysterious, gigantic, lipstick-wearing ogre. When this ogre is killed by Elindira, Legato's coffin is suspended from a ceiling.
In the anime, Legato forces Vash to kill him by using his powers to threaten Milly and Meryl. Legato thus becomes the first person that Vash ever consciously and willfully killed, fulfilling his promise to "make Vash the Stampede suffer eternal pain".
It has since been revealed in the manga that Legato came into Knives service at age 16, after having spent most of his life as a sex slave. He is inadvertently 'rescued' by Knives, who decides to wipe out the town he's being auctioned off in. His survival appears to be a fluke; when Knives notices him, he remarks that he didn't intend to leave anyone alive. Legato walks over to Knives-who promptly sends out an angel blade to rest against his throat. Legato sinks to his knees. "..... At your side...Please, I only wish that you would permit me to remain at your side?" Knives insists that he show him what 'skills' he possesses to make him worthy of this. If he's satisfied, Legato will be allowed to live and follow him, otherwise, he'll die like the others. Legato carefully manipulates the angel blade so that it cuts off a small chunk of his hair to win Knives' favor.
Two important factors are revealed: One is that Legato apparently possessed telekinetic ability before he acquired Vash's arm. When relating his story to Vash in a flashback, he remarks that he could, with a single thought, "manipulate a hundred men by myself, merely to win favor as I passed the time," suggesting that he may have used his "powers" up to that point to curry favor with his customers and perhaps keep himself from being hurt. The second is that Knives is responsible for Legato's name. When he asks Legato what he's called, Legato cries and says he has no name. To which Knives replies "Then...I'll give you one, something whimsical, but also strong."
