It emphasizes meditation, prayer, and self-transcendence. Carl Jung (see Jungian psychology) was the first to use the expression transpersonal (ueberpersoenlich), in 1917. Psychiatrist Stanislav Grof, the codeveloper of Holotropic Breathwork, coined the name transpersonal psychology.
