The Machine - Influence
The Machine almost perpetually holds a supermajority of seats in the SGA Senate and all but one of the offices in the SGA Executive Board. Currently, that token office is the Executive Secretary.
The Machine also has a history of influencing the composition of honor societies, insuring that each honor society has a majority of Machine greeks who will vote for the slate of candidates for offices within the honor society, and who will perpetuate the Machine majority for the next year's inductees. Organizations alleged to be under Machine control include Cardinal Key, Mortar Board, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Blue Key. In addition, the Jasons Mens Senior Honorary, which was also founded in 1914 by the late Sen. Lister Hill is largely composed of fraternity presidents and senior Machine 'reps'. Jasons is unique to the University of Alabama and is the oldest honor society on campus with recognition at both the Round House on the Quad and the newly constructed Crimson Promenade.
The Machine also controls the slate of candidates for the Homecoming Court and the outcome of the election for Homecoming Queen and the Capstone Gentleman (the Queen's male equivalent).
