Tejas has several meanings: Tejas was the name given by Spanish explorers to the Hasinai group of Caddo-speaking Native Americans. The name Tejas was also given to the region of New Spain and/or Mexico where the Hasinai lived; see Coahuila y Tejas and/or Republic of Texas. Tejas remains the Spanish name of Texas.
