- Clarification of the confusion: When saying a band is "tech" or "tech metal" it is only describing how the band sounds. It is not an accepted real genre of metal. The line is drawn thin of where an adjective like this becomes a subgenre, but as of now, "tech metal" is not one of them since every band described as "tech metal" is included within some other fundamental genre of metal. Bands such as Nile, Cryptopsy, Deeds of Flesh, and Necrophagist would never be considered to be in the same subgenre together with Spastic Ink, Aghora, and Dysrhythmia although they may all sound technical.
- The creation of "technical death metal" started in the late 80's/early 90's when death metal bands started writing more complex song structures with an increasing number of more drastic time signatures and tempo changes. This early implementation can be heard somewhat in early Morbid Angel albums, then later on in bands such as Suffocation, Monstrosity, and Vital Remains, and eventually to the mid-90's where it solidified as stable subgenre of death metal.
