Stahlhelm - M1935/1940
The Stahlhelm was completely redesigned in the 1930s. The size of the flared visor and skirt was reduced, and the inadequate ventilator lugs were discarded. As such, the helmet became lighter, more compact, and more comfortable to wear than the World War One-era designs. The edges of the helmet were rolled over, creating a smooth edge along the helmet. The helmet ventlator was a two-piece component that fit almost flush along the shell.
The helmet was modified in 1940, by having the shell ventilators simplified. The ventilator was merely stamped into the shell rather than being manufactured as a separate component and fitted on the shell. Otherwise, it was identical to the M1935.
