Peace on Earth: Focus On Healing Wounds Of Past By V T Patil & Asiananda
Peace on Earth: Focus On Healing Wounds Of Past Healing in popular parlance means to recover bodily health. In a deeper sense, it also means recovering our true identity in relation to the Self, cosmos, and God. So when we say we need to heal the wounded subcontinent, it means three things - tending the wound, recovering health, and recognising the interconnectedness of our individual identities and that of the subcontinent. The subcontinent's wound has been festering since the Partition of India in 1947, and today, we are threatened with a nuclear face-off. This is all the more reason why we need to address the problem and try and initiate a healing process. We can start on this by recognising the true subcontinental identity, healing the wound of Partition, and ultimately moving on to a truly enduring planetary healing. Healing the subcontinent in this sense is affirming its fundamental unity that precedes all its diversities and pluralities. It is an understanding of its geographical, historical, civilisational, strategic and substratumic unity. It has a spiritual unity too, which transcends time and space. The Indic is the subcontinent's underlying archetype, the Vedic seers saw this as the Skambha, the centre that holds all together. That is why when the subcontinent recovers its preordained identity, geopolitically it will reconcile and balance the Asian continental mass, bringing about the true concordance of Sino-Nipponic north-east Asia, the Turko-Mongoloid Central Asia, the Arab-Islamic West Asia, and also the Eurasian hemisphere. An India that has realised this higher identity of its own Self ipso facto upholds the vision of a post-atomic, millennial global peace order. Our Gandhian and Nehruvian legacies obligate us to drive humanity towards this alternative vision of the world order. It was when our ancient and deep-rooted intellectual convictions and spiritual stamina were depleted that we went for Pokhran II. With that we dismantled the 'principled geopolitical idealism' for which we had been a guarantor for half a century, unleashing the floodgates of realpolitik that now unquestionably passes for the US unipolar hegemony. An India that has truly realised its identity will emerge as the cardinal global player of the 21st century, and establish a 'Pax Indica of the Spirit'. The country can then help the US in realising its own true identity, which is the 'Pax Americana of Hope'. Then Washington will have recognised that it was once built as the 'City upon the Hill'; and that at decisive moments of history it stood truly on humanity's side: Lincoln's Emancipation, Wilson's Self-determination, Roosevelt's promise of 'New Global Deal', Kennedy's call of 'My fellow citizens of the world'. Such a realised India and the US could indeed join hands to lead the world in a common civilisational human adventure - the Postmodern Project Camelot guiding the ongoing process of Globalisation towards an ultimate Global Renaissance. As for the subcontinent's physical health, there is no need for worry. On the surface we are the seven sisters of South Asia, there are no serious border disputes except between India and Pakistan. The real problem is 1971 and the dismemberment of Pakistan, the birth of Bangladesh, the utter discrediting of two-nation theory, and the ultimate negation of Pakistani identity. It is this existential negation and its revengist libidinal release that has led to the present Indo-Pak stand-off that separates our neighbourhood by a nano second from the midnight of nuclear winter. What can save the situation is a matrix of healing that is a holistic, Vedico-quantum, new conception of history.
