Olga Rudge - Early life
Olga Rudge was born in Youngstown, Ohio on April 13, 1895. Her parents were J. Edgar Rudge, a real estate investor, and Julia O'Connell Rudge, a professional singer.
At the age of 10, Rudge moved to Europe with her mother and two brothers. The family first lived in London and later moved to Paris as Julia Rudge pursued her singing career. Olga Rudge was educated at a convent school in Sherborne, Dorset, England, before studying in Paris under the violinist Léon Carambât of the Opéra-Comique.
By 1916, Rudge was a renowned concert violinist and gave performances at many charitable concerts raising money for the First World War effort. Her brother Arthur Rudge was killed in action in 1915. By the end of the war in 1918, her career as an international concert violinist was beginning under the auspices of Ildebrando Pizzetti and his patroness Katherine Dalliba-John. In 1918, Pizzetti and Rudge toured Italy together giving a series of concerts of modern Italian music.
