Michio Kushi
Michio Kushi (久司 道夫 Kushi Michio) born 1926 in Japan, helped to bring modern macrobiotics to the United States.
Michio Kushi - Background
After World War II, Kushi studied with the founder of macrobiotics, Georges Ohsawa, in Japan. Since coming to America along with Herman Aihara, Kushi has founded the East West Foundation, the Kushi Foundation, and the One Peaceful World and the Kushi Institute and written over 40 books.
Kushi studied law and international relations at the University of Tokyo, and completed his studies at Columbia University. Kushi now lives in the One Peaceful World Village, established on his estate in the Berkshires, in Massachusetts. He has five children and thirteen grandchildren. One of his grandchildren attends Hofstra University.
Kushi has lectured about philosophy, spiritual development, health, food and diseases in many conferences and seminars around the world .
Michio Kushi - Achievements
Kushi received the Award of Excellence from the United Nations Writers Society. In 1999, the Smithsonian Institution opened a permanent collection on macrobiotics and alternative health care in his name.
