The word Jagadguru is of sanskrit origin. The word jagat means "world" and Guru means preceptor. Hence, Jagadguru translates into "the guru of the world". There have been four such gurus in India in the past. They are Adi Sankaracharya, Ramanujacharya, Madhavacharya and Nibarkacharya. The present Jagadguru according to the Kashi Vidvat Parishat, is Jagadguru Kripaluji Maharaj.
