Compact disc player - Criticism

CD players sometimes misread CDs, especially scratched or dirty ones, leading to click noises and delays (which is often known as a "CD skip"). CD players are also sensitive to physical shocks, which cause the playback to stop for a short time (unless Electronic Skip Protection is used).

When people burn CD-R or CD-RW discs, they take a lengthy amount of time. People who have MP3 players or iPods have been able to directly copy MP3s to them so that they would avoid going through file conversion phases that consume time aforementioned in the paragraph.

People who have laptops with high capacity hard disk drives have been able to reduce their collection of CDs albeit many DJs still use bulky collections of CDs and a player for them. Some people have completely switched their collections from CDs to MP3 or OGG, but others prefer uncompressed music due to its higher quality. Since CD players with the ability to play MP3s stored on computer data CDs (CD-ROMs) have been new to the market, they may phase out more quickly than conventional CDs since palm-sized digital audio players with flash-memory or built-in hard drive are smaller.
