Channel [V] is an international music channel chain. Owned by Star TV, it is aired in many countries around Asia and the Middle East. They play both mainstream and alternative music, with some focus on local music. Mainly English music is played, though the country-specific channels do play content of their own mother tongue.
Channel V - Channel [V] International
Channel [V] International is the main channel. It was produced and operated from Hong Kong from 1992 until 2002, after which operations were shifted to Malaysia in order to save on costs. Channel [V] International has a slightly bigger audience in Asia than MTV Asia as it airs in more countries. They are known for providing original and interactive music programming, with TV shows such as Bid It, The Ticket, Smash Hits, and many others.

Channel V - Channel [V] Australia
Arguably the most popular Australian cable television music channel, and also the newest (and second-biggest) Channel [V] channel. It is available on Foxtel, Optus TV and Austar. It is targeted at the youth market, and plays both mainstream and alternative music.

Channel [V] supported the Channel [V] Detour, a skate and music tour in the eastern states of Australia, in early 2004.

Previously called Red, Channel [V] commenced broadcasting in 1995 on the now defunct Galaxy service. The name change to Channel [V] came about after owners XYZ Entertainment (now xyznetworks) and Channel [V] International came to agreement over naming rights.
In 2004, the launch of Foxtel Digital has seen a second [V] branded channel hit the subscription airwaves, Club [V] focuses on dance and club music.

In India, Channel [V] is probably more popular than MTV.
Airing shows like US Billboard Countdown, Luke's After Hours, Smash Hits etc; it provides a quality music. Hindi Film music and music video shows like First Day First Show also make it popular among general public.
Some humorous shows like Lola T[V] gives a variety of entertainment.
The Popstars show for selecting young faces and making them pop stars was very popular and the last group so far to hold the title is the extremely popular "Aasma".
With two seasons of [v] Popstars, two seasons of [v] Get Gorgeous, a season of [v] On The Run, [v] Freedom Express, [v] Super Singer and [v] Launchpad, Channel [v] India is undeniably the most prolific producer of Reality Television in India.

Channel [V] Thailand is a joint-venture between STAR and Broadcasting Network Thailand (BNT). It is now available exclusively on Thailand's main pay-TV platform, UBC. It is a popular channel for Thai youths and its VJs are well-known celebrities (VJ Paula Taylor, VJ Voonsen, VJ Ja, VJ Nadia, etc.) Under management of Mr. Tanawat Wansom (Managing Director), the channel plans to expan into multimedia, events, and other exciting ventures.
