Brothers of the Shadow

In the Mortal Kombat universe, the Brothers of the Shadow (or Brotherhood of Shadows) are a cult based around Quan Chi and worship of the fallen Elder God Shinnok. The known members of the Brotherhood are Reiko, general of Shinnok's army, Tanya, an Edenian traitor, Noob Saibot, and Kia, Jataaka, and Sareena, three of Quan Chi's personal assassins.

Sub-Zero V encountered Kia, Jataaka, and Sareena in the Netherrealm while retrieving Shinnok's amulet from Quan Chi during Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero. After he died at the hands of Scorpion, Sub-Zero entered the Netherrealm and was transformed into Noob Saibot.

Shinnok resurrected Mileena and sent her and Noob Saibot to ally with Shao Kahn during his invasion of Earthrealm in Mortal Kombat Trilogy.

When Shinnok attacked the Elder Gods in Mortal Kombat Gold, Tanya joined the Brotherhood because she thought she would have a position of power in Shinnok's new world order, and Reiko joined because of his allegiance to Shinnok.

With the deaths of Shinnok and Quan Chi, the Brotherhood is effectively disbanded.

Brothers of the Shadow - Trivia

• It is believed that when a member of the Brotherhood Of Shadow leaves the clan, he/she takes on a human form. This is thus further illustrated with the appearance of Reiko, whom confesses to be a former member of the clan yet still possesses the ablities of a member of a brotherhood of shadow member.
• Noob Saibot is rumored to have not only started the clan, but is also the leader of the clan, whom worships Shinnok.
• Ashrah, despite her angelic appearance, was a former member of the Brotherhood of Shadow. Sareena also is a former member of the clan whom is marked for death for not only leaving the clan but also keeping in contact with Sub-Zero. It is thus revealed in Sareena's ending in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (the Game Boy Advance version) that Sareena escaped the clan and fled to Earthrealm in which she took refuge in Sub-Zero's Lin Kuei clan.
