The Book of Ether is one of books that make up the Book of Mormon. The Book of Ether tells of an ancient people (The Jaredites) who were led by God to the Americas shortly after the destruction of the Tower of Babel. The title refers to Ether, a Jaredite prophet.

This book was translated and abridged by Moroni and included in the plates from which the Book of Mormon was translated. This book is from an earlier set of twenty-four plates discovered by the people of Limhi during the time of King Mosiah (father of King Benjamin) (Mosiah 8:9 and Ether 1:2). Coriantumr was the last king of the Jaredites, all of whom were destroyed except Coriantumr, who was discovered by the people of Zarahemla. The people of Zarahemla also discovered a large stone containing a brief history of Coriantumr's people that Mosiah was able to translate (Omni 1:20-22).
