Affirmation Advantages: Finding Your Soul Mate

Deep in the heart there is hope that there is someone out there who is the 'right one' for you.

Loneliness is a hunger born deep in the heart. It is reflective of the inner need and eagerness to seek fulfillment and completeness. As human beings mature into adults, they consciously become more and more aware of their heart's inner despondency and strive to satiate it through various means. The most prominent way of course is by relating to others.

Deep in the heart there is hope that there is someone out there who is the 'right one' for you. This is the person who will make the flowers in you life bloom and multiply forever... The one whom you relate with from deep within you very soul - in other words, your soul mate.

The institution of marriage for many seems to offer the fulfillment of this treasured dream hope...you find such a person and live 'happily ever after'. Many writers and poets have sought to explore this phenomenon of the search of a soul mate. Richard Bach's The Bridge Across Forever gives an interesting account of how he sought and found his soul mate.

The reason why we search is clear - evidently there is something we seek, which we think the other can give. However, our world is full of examples of shattered illusions and broken dreams. Someone who is regarded as a picture of love and beauty and virtue, turns out to be a bitter disappointment.

There has been so much psychological and emotional strife thanks to this. Does this, therefore, imply that it is useless to try to share a life of beauty and togetherness with someone? Or is it that we need to re-orient ourselves and have the right attitude and approach? How can we guard ourselves against illusions and find the person who is 'right' for us in the evolutionary process of life?

To begin with, our search in the human ocean should be positive in nature and not be born out of a desperate need. All predominantly need-based relationships will tend to eventually crumble, because the result is possessiveness and fear. Of course, the question may arise here that if completeness were within would it imply that we would become islands unto ourselves?

No, not necessarily. It is only when we are bound by our needs and fear that we unable to reach out and share and merge. Being free from within ensures that we truly reach out and relate to the other - soul-to-soul, spirit-to-spirit. Body and material consciousness, however, tend to prevent us from doing so.

Ideally, we must thus first fulfill our needs on our own rather than look for someone else who can do it for us. We have to realize that we can take care of ourselves, for all that the universe has to offer is ours for the asking.

Apropos, if you are trying to use affirmations to attract someone who you think will take care of your needs, stop pronto! The chances are not very bright that the relationship will be roses and moonlight all the way. It would be better if you use affirmations to fulfill whatever it is that you need on your own.

A relationship should be a delight, a celebration, a commingling of two dynamic, independent notes joining in harmony to create something even more beautiful. If you feel that as an individual you are independent and happy, it is fairly likely that you will attract to yourself a partner with similar qualities. Remember the cosmic law - like attracts like.

To practise affirmations for attracting the kind of person you want, find your place of quietude. Think of the person with the qualities you admire most. The visual need not have the face and features vividly structured, though clarity is always a bonus!

You could see the person moulded in admirable traits of goodness, loyalty, honesty, talent, beauty or whatever else. As you keep the image in the vault of your mental omnipresence, affirm to yourself: "I am attracting by the cosmic law a partner who is goodhearted, loyal, courageous, prosperous, witty and happy."

Choose your affirmation, as it may be suited to your temperament and personality. Edit it if you seek, trying to keep it short and pertinent. Repeat it regularly to yourself over a period of time for it to take effect.
