Affirmation Advantages: Building Confidence

A human being is not a scarecrow with a head and body full of straw. A human being is an embodiment and channel of God's light and power. Yet there are times when confidence runs low, and we do not feel quite up to the mark. While this happens to the best of us at times, some people who live by a defeatist attitude all the time. This is not just undesirable but detrimental to one's psychological and spiritual growth.

The important point to be noted is that it is changeable. The greatest and most confident people in the world's history were not born that way. What distinguishes an ordinary person from a saint is the latter's extraordinary levels of determination. The qualities that make a person unique and dynamic are not imbued from the sky and neither are they necessarily inherited. They are in fact usually built up consciously and painstakingly.

To be confident is to be sure of one's ability to achieve one's goal and face the difficulties that may come on the path. Confidence is not arrogance. A confident person is essentially happy and radiates light and goodwill. Confidence inspires confidence in others; arrogance undermines others. To be confident is to be in touch with the power of the Universe, which enables you to do whatever you want.

Lack of confidence or the notion that one is not good enough, is an indication that one has slipped into an area of darkness within oneself. When we re-establish contact with the cosmic force and intelligence that guides our life, confidence is perhaps the last thing a person can lack. This is because you are in touch with the universal Power and can derive or take from there all that you need at a particular time.

It is only when we are deluded into thinking of ourselves as weak, isolated and limited individuals that we are tormented by fear or nervousness. Once we break away from this notion, and recognize ourselves to be part and parcel of the all-pervading universal consciousness, fear or a sense of inadequacy ceases to be.

To reawaken a sense of confidence and to banish the veils of ignorance that fill one with a notion of limitation, practise this affirmation (or any other that you might choose to create): "I am a being of Divine Light and Power. I have access to all that the universe offers. I can reach out and take or do whatever I want, whenever I want."

Practice this regularly in the morning and at night, and whenever you feel enmeshed by stormy thoughts of weakness or fear. Confidence is yours for the asking!
