Constantine V Copronymus ("The Dung-named") (718-September 14, 775) was Byzantine emperor from 741 to 775. Constantine was the son and successor of Leo III the Isaurian. Constantine was opposed by his father's chamberlain Artabasdus, who attacked his army while they were on campaign against the Arabs in Anatolia. Jianzhen or Ganjin (鑒真 or 鑑真; 688–763) was a Chinese monk who helped to propagate Buddhism in Japan. In the eleven years from 743 to 754, Jianzhen attempted to visit Japan some six times.
