1998: Encyclopedia II - Lincoln Navigator - 1998

The 1998 Navigator introduced the concept of the American luxury SUV, competing at first with only the Land Rover Range Rover. It was trimmed with leather, wood, and fine carpeting, but its humble pickup truck roots could be easily spotted. This didn't slow sales, though, upon introduction of the Lincoln Navigator for the 1998 model year waiting lines for the Navigtor formed. Competitors from Chevrolet and GMC quickly followed. Much like the Cadillac Escalade, the Navigator has found a spot with c ...

Toyota introduced the Avensis nameplate on its all-new car which was launched at the end of 1997. Like its predecessor, the Avensis was built at the Burnaston factory in Derby. At the same time, production of the five-door Toyota Corolla also started at this British plant. The original Avensis had the option of four engines (1.6 L, 1.8 L and 2.0 L petrol and a 2.0 L turbodiesel) and three body styles (saloon, hatchback (branded "Liftback" and estate). The station wagon was essentially the Japanese-market second gen ...

1998: Encyclopedia II - Hyundai Sonata - 1998

A new model came in 1998 (1999 in the US), launching the (EF) series. The styling was slightly less aggressive, and modelled more on a Hyundai show car earlier that year. This redesign kept the German influences, but bore an unintentional resemblance to the Ford Taurus as well. Engines were a 1.8 L 134 PS, 2.0 L 149 PS, 2.4 L 149 hp (111 kW) I4 and an impressive 2.5 L 170 hp (127 kW) V6. 1998: Encyclopedia II - Cadillac Seville - 1998

The Seville was updated for 1998 on a new revision of the K-body platform based on Oldsmobile's G-body Aurora. The wheelbase was up to 112.2 in but the overall length was down a bit to 201 in. The car looked similar to the outgoing fourth-generation model, but was plagued by build quality problems. The Seville STS (and companion Eldorado ETC) became the most powerful front wheel drive cars on ...

1998 was the first year when she finished in the WTA top 20. She began the season in Sydney as a qualifier, ranked no. 96, and she beat world no. 3 Lindsay Davenport in the quarterfinal. Serena, with her top 20 ranking, was then expected to do well in her first Grand Slam tournament, but she lost in the second round of the Australian Open to sister Venus. 1998: Encyclopedia II - Mazda 626 - 1998

1998 brought the fifth-generation 626, now on the GF platform, again built by AutoAlliance International in Flat Rock, Michigan. Its MX-6 and Ford Probe derivations were gone. From 1997 through 1999 the 626 was given an engine overhaul to give it better pedal feel. However, as most car reviews will attest, it was a bland vehicle with softer handling and fewer features than the 1993–1997 version. The final Mazda 626 rolled off the Flat Rock, Michigan ...
